For its absence causes my weakness and humiliation

7. Quarter of wishes, refuge of all the genteel
Dwelling of beauty and the lovely eyes

8. Cradle of my youth, and peers, and wet nurse
Breast of joy that still nurtures me

9. Arise my friend, let's go early to its garden
For fortune called us from Sidi Bou Said

10. Spring gifted us its subtlety and generosity
Scent of its breath in the winds

11. Don't you see the flowers' eyes looking
For amusement, intimacy, and joys, beckoning me

12. Help your brother to Ariana, for it has
A garden adorned with my roses and eglantine

13. And enjoy the flowers' souls in its company
With wine matured in the Abbaye de St. Antoine

14. And stop at Sidi Bou Said at dusk
And place your bets, as gifts come your way

15. Jasmine whose branches do not wither, watering
The lips of its flowers, daughter of palm trees

16. Shaded shade, and cool water like syrup
At the turtledoves' return, ladies of the hills

17. Retreat to your sole self in Manzila
Take off your worries there, like Al-Ma'mun

18. And carry to the shore of La Marsa and its dome
Wine sparkling from the wines of Bizerte

19. Join your friends in clothes of luxury
Drink from the goblet, serve it and serve me

20. Let your eyes roam, relaxed and delighted
Among the greenery of the sea or the gardens

21. Gazelles frolicking, fawns swimming, nothing
On land to disturb, nor in sea to care

22. The doe wraps its excuse in her clothes
For her beauty makes proof unnecessary

23. Climb the mount of El Baji and its soil
And seek untainted gifts thereabouts

24. Until you have had your fill of euphoria
And disdained afterwards any gaiety or softness

25. Hurry to its valley's throat, and smell
The scent eternalized by southern winds

26. You will see ships in the constellations staring
Like the watchtowers hovering around lighthouses

27. Adorned with cannons of different forms
Black yawning mouths like serpents

28. And ask Abu Laith the great warrior about
His feats against his wretched enemies

29. And enter the Grand Redoubt, for in it
Are soldiers whose pride in praise entices me

30. Lions of armies in seas of weapons lying
For victory of their Sultan, country, and faith

31. In Surat As-Saff, their condition is exemplified
Their fortune still protected in Ya Seen

32. And gallop to the Galloper's Redoubt, and you will find
Honorable people on the heights of glory

33. Their ships in the darkness sparkling like lightning
With every anger in victory's ensured waters

34. In Fana Al-Qandil are commerce's lions
Who traded God a trade that knows no loss

35. Prudence, patience, obedience are their way
In excellent composure with mighty victory paired

36. And if you reach the Caliph's palace, say
Greetings, greetings O abode of Sultans!

37. O dome of justice, O house of rule, O
Refuge for every far from home destitute

38. You still last in might and veneration
For lords of Egypt, heads of institutions

39. So residences of protection and piety
And landmarks of chanting and call to prayer

40. You are truly the abodes, not abodes of those
Who say "O breeze from the direction of my homes"

41. None before me extolled you when saying
Of your rise at dawn, it is not inferior

42. I followed Abul 'Abbas Ahmad's lead in
The breeze of Tunis revived me and gives me life

43. My pride, wealth, and famous teacher, and he who
Revived me in the crevices of my veins

44. Holder of ministry, by sword and by pen
A position not needing further explanation
