1. We have made our proposal, and the guardian has consented
Knowing that the suitor is adequate
١. قَدْ خَطَبْنا وَقَدْ أَجازَ الوَليُّ
بعدَ عِلْمٍ أَنَّ الخطيبَ كَفِيُّ
2. We have sent the bride wealth in prose and verse
It is right that the gifts be brought forth
٢. وبَعَثْنا الصَّداقَ نَثْراً ونَظْماً
فَمِنَ الحَقِّ أَن تُزَفَّ الهَدِيُّ
3. Oh Abu Ja'far, after such a long wait
It is past time five that the stallion be saddled
٣. يا أَبا جَعْفَرٍ أَمَا بَعْدَ ظِمْءٍ
جاوَزَ الخَمْسَ أَنْ تُراحَ المَطِيُّ
4. Is it just that you leave her longing
While at your side is the well-bred steed
٤. أَمِنَ العَدْلِ أَن تَجِفَّ حَشاها
وبِجَمَّاتِها لَدَيْكَ الرُّكِيُّ
