1. Many a soft and weakling man, his glances
Are like banners of warning on the day of strife.
١. رُبَّ ظَبيٍ خَنِثٍ ألحاظُهُ
كَعَوَالي مُنذِرٍ يَومَ النِّزالِ
2. He passed the wine-cup round and it intoxicated me,
So I seized the bright star from the hand of the crescent moon.
٢. أترَعَ الكَأسَ وحَيَّاني بِهَا
فأخذت النَّجمَ من كَفِّ الهِلالِ
3. When I drink it seems I feel the pleasure
Al-Mansur knew in bestowing gifts and largesse.
٣. فكأنِّي واجِدٌ فِي شُربِها
لَذَّةَ المنصُورِ فِي بَذلِ النَّوالِ
