بغى إذ بغى حتى تصرع أهله

1. He persisted in his quest until his people were torn apart,
In a house of humiliation that had stripped them of their glory.

١. بغى إذ بغى حتى تَصَرَّعَ أهلُهُ
بدار هوانِ قد عَرَاهُمْ زكالُها

2. They fell from their steeds, their heads flung
While their crowns lay in the dust - their sandals.

٢. وألقوا عن الأفراس حيث رؤوسُهُم
أكاليلُها فوقَ التّرابِ نعالها

3. The horses of darkness were routed, fleeing,
Wandering though their range grew narrow.

٣. وللخيل أجفالُ الظليم هزيمةً
تجولُ ولكن يومَ ضاقَ مجالُها

4. In the soil their tails had been like plaits -
Tightly woven on the day their braids were plaited.

٤. وكانَتْ لها تلكَ الذّوائبُ في الثرى
شكالاً وثيقاً يوم حلَّ شَكالُها

5. So they spent the night as bedding while the swords were unsheathed,
Fuel for the flames until the fire consumed them.

٥. فأمسوا فَراشاً والأَسنَةُ شُرع
ذَبالٌ إلى أن أحرَقَتَهم ذُبالُها
