And recounted them leaving an impact while they are rallying cries.

3. O God, what resolute determination held fast
When the arrows of determination were being released!

4. What is left for the bold, terrifying violence
That battered the south after ravaging the north?

5. How often before this your resolve almost
Shattered a foe - you split him open like worn-out rags.

6. And when the troop disengaged from it, they then
Stopped to finish them off and totally eradicate.

7. So you made from fragmented, scattered remnants
A bouquet, and their captives your war booty.

8. And you brought Al-Ashas humbly bending, choked by
The stench of defeat's utter humiliation.

9. You left their four picked out for the ravages of time -
Effaced landmarks, prostrated ruins.

10. No refuge saves them: escape cannot,
Nor the swift-flanked camel or steed.

11. Your cunning tears after them in their tracks,
Sending against them hunting beasts released.

12. Had they took the Milky Way, the path
Of the stars would not then be far out of reach,

13. Nor remote from the ambition of resolve that will not
Be sated except by long, trailing robes.

14. And sees the most high what it attains and reaps
Of the resolute or the inconstant archer.

15. Tested in battles, renowned and unyielding,
Keen-sighted, intrepid, attaining the peaks.

16. Whoever strays from the right path, your palm
Corrects, youth having passed, misguidance dispelled.

17. How the two listeners trembled when they heard the clash
That became proverbial from the examples!

18. His awe took hearts captive, blended with
Love like water blended with sweet wine.

19. His wondrous exploits march on, chronicled
As models to emulate for generations.

20. For him the brilliant, shining, manifest
Sublime feats stand out, for all to witness.

You have made us needless of setting up any titles

22. To identify or describe his condition.
Who contends with his glory? Where are the remnants

23. Of floods to match the peak water levels?
Who rivals his worth and majesty? Is the sun

24. At noon compared with the dimness of dusk?
He is the essence of nobility and propriety

25. While all others are flotsam and fantasy’s mirage.
He is the foremost, grasping the highest branch

26. While others in it are despoilers and plunderers.
The auspicious omen gladdening the darkest nights

27. From good tidings of him dispels gloom.
O God, through him you will one day bring

28. This religion, now absent, its every hope.
Before long you will make him a Caesar and

29. His justice will pour on al-Andalus like rain,
Until you cloth his enemies in utter humiliation

30. As they become fettered captives.
You have granted him victory and support—may he
