1. I swear not by Sīn and Ṭāh,
Nor by the scattering winds, nor iron,

2. But by the white faces like the
Crescent moon beneath the branches of acacia,

3. And drinking water mixed with the wine of cheeks,
And smelling musk from the roses of cheeks,

4. And my extinguishing of the heat of the face on the
day of parting with sucking pomegranate buds,

5. And by the wine which was for ‘Ād,
But after their ordeal with Hood,

6. It was a drink in the ancient time which was
prepared for every stubborn tyrant,

7. A drink in which I have no leader to pray behind except al-Walīd.
