1. Pour me the wine and pass it round, my friend
Pour me its sealèd nectar to ascend

This verse the people read and comprehend

3. Pour it, for I and Time, we shall offend
Its rule, and in Hellfire its law amend

4. Pour it and leave me not to mere narration
Of it, nor only to the grape's fermentation

5. Dawn took in the young radiant morn its fill
The daughter of the vine, generous still

6. Then say to North wind: “From where, O gentle breeze
Came you, and brought this soul upon the trees?”

7. “Do you see that the greens have passed by me, and graced
Me with the bliss of heavens in eternal haste?”

8. “Or is it the Prince Abou Taghlib draws near
In his coming, solid of will, without fear?”
