1. I remained while separation from you has swept the homes
And I did not fear that I would remain after you
١. بَقيتُ وَقَد شَطَّت بِكُم غُربَةُ النَّوى
وَما كُنتُ أَخشى أَنَّني بَعدَكُم أَبقى
2. And you taught me how to be patient without you
And seek with the shackles of passion for you, freedom
٢. وَعَلَّمتُموني كَيفَ أَصبِرُ عَنكُمُ
وَأَطلُبُ مِن رِقِّ الغَرامِ بِكُم عِتقا
3. So I never said to crying over you, gently
Nor for yearning toward you, slowly
٣. فَما قُلتُ يَوماً لِلبُكاءِ عَلَيكُمُ
رُوَيداً وَلا لِلشَّوقِ نَحوكُم رِفقا
4. For love is not but that I count your ugliness
To me beautiful, and your scarcity from me, love.
٤. فَما الحُبُّ إِلّا أَن أعُدَّ قَبيحَكُم
إِليَّ جَميلاً وَالقِلى مِنكُمُ عِشقا
