1. I was kept awake by lightning like the winking eyes of a doe
That appears and disappears repeatedly
١. أَرِقتُ لِبَرقٍ كَمَتنِ الحُسا
مِ يَبدو مِراراً وَيَخفى مِرارا
2. As though dawn had come to visit the night, then hurried away in flight
The camels say, wearied of a group that has lost its way upon them:
٢. كَأَنَّ الصَّباحَ أًتى زائِراً
إِلى اللَّيلِ ثُمَّ تَوَلّى فِرارا
3. “Come to generosity! The clan of Amer has kindled in the darkness of night a fire.”
٣. تَقولُ المَطايا وَقَد عَزَّها
لِرَكبٍ تَهادوا عَلَيهِ حَيارى
٤. هَلُمُّوا إِلى الجودِ قَد أَوقَدَت
بَنو عامِرٍ في دُجا اللَّيلِ نارا
