1. Your crescent we likened, though a new moon night's son,
To a bright full moon for beauty, fourteen days on.

2. Your dream of it was a dream tried men's dreams outrun,
Scarce weaned yet from childhood's rule.

3. A youth's dream in his prime vigor
Trumps a dream in the years of age and rigor.

4. Young men's ignorance is cloaked in handsomeness;
So how when wisdom adds its charm to comeliness?

5. You gained high rank unhoped for, since you never strove
To gain it, nor did any peer expect thereof.

6. See now! However high the station given you this day,
You yearned - and scaling grade on grade made way.

7. Your dwellings are for honored dames abodes;
Your portals - portals of all grace and goods.

8. If one lord leaves, a lord takes stand
To guard nobility from all rumor and scandal.

9. You thanked - and noblest ladies owe their Lord great thanks
For winning in your company most precious ranks.

10. In thanking you they but increased His bounty by
Increasing thankfulness to Him for bounty high.

11. In the King you have a pillar, shaming all
Who win by force or ruse a crown and fall.

12. At the mention of his sires the usurper's face
Grows black with shame, his eyes cast down in baseness.

13. A boy at morning, their sun sets ere noon;
At night, their state is but the ghost of rule.

14. And the eye of heaven's Lord protects your reign,
Keeping the ancient bonds inviolate again.

15. You held Time captive from its nursing mother's arms
And reared it, while the world was yet in flow'ring charms.

16. And it grew not knowing any kings but you;
Hence more than filial love is your loyal due.

17. The zebras have o’errun the world with strife,
Lording it nation after nation rife.

18. No kingdom thrives like Ahmad's son's for merit sheer
In stock and deeds its grace and worth appear.

19. You rule hearts by your virtue - fames blows
Apart from these - and by the love each creature owes.

20. Does not “Abdallah comes" set souls aflight
For joy, till the waste glitters Eden-bright?

21. And when he fares in cavalcade, men who behold
His noble mien are dazzled from the first quick gold.

22. Kings there are who reck not if 'tis love or hate
Looks from their subjects' eyes at their estate.

23. The path you chose is a sign, a rare great sign;
Men of wisdom see it as a sign divine.

24. Therein is loved whoe’er is not unjust;
Therein is feared whoe’er sows schism and distrust.

25. Therein the Lord is pleased with you; and pleasure
From God is whoso merits Paradise's treasure.

26. Behold you not what deeds the Lord has wrought
To break the foemen, shatter their body politic?

27. He will subdue them, let His arm but play,
To what their hands have done be just repayment.

28. The Lord of the Throne gave victory; and He has sworn
To grant His champion signs of succor borne.

29. You healed the mortals' hearts by deeds that raised
Our faith up measurably, and its foes abased.

30. No! By God, He’ll not let oblivion blight
A scene where you did garb hosts in robes of fright!

31. 'Twill be divulged world over, and mankind will lift
Their hands, imploring Heaven bless the Sultan's reign.

32. My God! Back mightily Your Champion, for he stood
To brace Islam upright in hardihood.

33. Destroy his enemies who hate Your friends amain
Then recompense him for Religion and Domain!
