1. Upon the auspicious rising star the palace is built,
Paired with it, victory and triumph.

2. With the tide of time, its beauty on the horizon grows,
Marveling, the palace beautifies.

3. With it the world is built, though it is not built by it,
So no land prides over another in it.

4. It suffices that the earth is eclipsed by its sky,
So it willingly parts from its abode.

5. The horizon yearns for it as the sun inclines toward it,
Wishing with it to rise like stars of dawn.

6. It travels at its edges, its hems appear,
Beauties it refuses to be confined.

7. Its stars circle in good fortune,
And some of its servants have lived an age.

8. Its sights have bound gazes in confusion,
Thought is not sated nor satisfied.

9. Its corners of marble declare its adornment,
Embroidered are its sides in green.

10. Impregnable over the plateau its plateau is level,
Neither hawk ascends nor eagle.

11. It is but a season for poems,
In its market praises and poetry price high.

12. Matching its perfect, complete construction,
The enemy is destroyed, praise be to God in thanks.

13. The kings of earth bow subservient,
At its doors, the trace of their mouths kissing.

14. Their faces in the dust disheveled and burnt,
Their hands tossed to the one in command.

15. To the most noble king, the smoothed path,
Of the highborn, towering, not prideful.

16. If the ignorant night sought his protection,
From the dawn, it would not redden the horizon.

17. A generous one, if the sky opened its mouths,
It would find his provisions to match its own.

18. Loving him is an obligation on every Muslim,
Nomad and city dweller profess it here.

19. His gifts have reached the extent of all who thank,
Endless his virtues in prose or verse.

20. A wise brother overlooking ignorance and spite,
With power that forgives the greatest sins.

21. The foundations crumble, yet he remains firm,
His face whitens while war paints red.

22. How many deceivers try to change his mind,
Impossible, their schemes never work.

23. Neither blames nor gossip sway his patience,
Nor does their slander narrow his chest.

24. So let me be, and speak of him,
He supersedes the Bible since the Book descended.

25. O king, outstripping kings in conduct,
When they cannot attain it, excuses stand.

26. With the manners of prophets, gentle and stern,
Neither easy, pliant, nor rough and coarse.

27. Your chest is the sea’s heart if a dilemma appears,
And your heart the sea’s chest if the matter is grand.

28. You combine of opposites kind aid,
And harshness harmful, both benefit and harm.

29. In your palm a healing fire, its warmth kindling,
And a sea of coolness in its waves overflowing.

30. My patron, I am the sapling of your goodness, water me
For you have no sapling without a river beneath.

31. You have drawn me from the sheath of neglect polished,
Yet poverty nearly makes me rust.

32. Remaining for eternity sufficient for eternity,
If one lifetime ends, another comes after.
