1. To you, lest resolution's people lose it,
And the burden of command is borne by the unfit,

Against all the soul fears and its equal?

5. By your life, no friend you left unsatisfied,
Prattling of you, when it wearied him.

Befitting the description of their evil, unwearied.

7. You wished for men a rank you wouldn't accept,
Not every fancy's aim attains it.

8. So let him look, see what ennobles him,
Or else see what debases him.

9. He lives in fear from behind driving him,
And death turning him, and an army routing him,

10. And the blow of a tyrant, beneath whom a merciful heart,
And the leap of a lion, swifter than his enemies,

11. And a resolute decision, when chance is empty
Of events, and deed outstrips intent,

12. To wreak havoc among enemies with his spear,
And decree their fate however he wills by its blade.

13. When columns march around him, massed,
The clouds of God's victory shadow him.

14. No fear but what fills his enemy's heart,
When he finds no guide to peace showing him.

15. Rise high in glories through your soul,
Surpassing what people attained through birth.

16. Young man, exalted minister, of pure origin,
Your achievements show your line was virtuous.

17. It suffices as pride that he was your father,
And your father sufficient that you were his cub.

18. By my life, by my love, bias to you
Clung to me, like the vine clings to the tree.

19. By you I rise and cast and take heed,
So who shall call me, when you hold my rope?

20. My aid in disasters, my arm in need,
My reliance in what weighed heavy on me.

21. Your lover Isma'il - nay, your slave, whose mind
Approached, as you drew near, and his mind.

22. Remember a promise you were truest to,
None hopes in hands like yours save their likeness.
