1. God does not will that an advisor suffer for giving counsel
Or that a young man's deeds go in vain though he gives counsel

2. Your view is a dawn that makes truth's light appear
Plainly, while the night of doubt is dark and winged

3. Enemies have conspired against me, men who backed each other
With lies and slander, spreading much false accusation

4. And they schemed to bar the door between me and you
Not knowing you are a door they cannot shut

5. I feared their anger if I shunned their land
And if they grew angry, the secret would spread far and wide

6. I tilted toward them, though our talk, if weighed
In scales, shows counsel's balance tipped in your favor

7. I overlooked their rights to guard your rights
Such care necessity's counsels have imposed

8. If they were fair, they'd not accuse me of their sins
No traitor profits from what he's been charged to watch over

9. God willed that I not meet you with my scroll
Blackened, for you to read and scandals come to light

10. In your absence I protected you, and God knows
What my heart contains, though passions toss and turn

11. I have not wavered from my vow, nor come between
Even if they trumpeted lies across scrolls

12. What's hidden will appear, though enviers hide it
And it will be known where truth and falsehood march

13. My wish is not what you wish, my goal's not
What greedy souls pursue in their unruly race

14. The least I'd bear, if you were satisfied,
Is their hurt—and those disgraceful, ugly acts

15. My heart by your forbearance is restrained
When tangled problems stir the senses to revolt

16. May God fill that heart with light and wisdom
For through it grave afflictions can be stemmed

17. None merit praise but Ahmad, when kings are counted
What king compares to Ahmad's judicious calm?

18. Can two seas be alike, one sweet and one salty?
Who equals the King whose fingers were keys

19. That opened sustenance and unlocked the doors?
So this flood comes from that raincloud pouring down

20. This moon rises from those dawning radiances
O you who champion Islam, you who adorned

21. The turban with his views when truth shone clear
Vex my enviers and raise me high, so I

22. May please you as a servant counseling rightly
Another will toil when I have gone and forget,

23. When you pretend affection, that hearts quickly shift
You have rewarded good people in this world

24. Defending them always and fighting on their behalf
Remaining gentle and caring toward them

25. With lives prospering on, by your grace
O victorious one, O pillar of the faith
