1. Her arrows are aimed, so beware their accuracy,
Their feathers smooth and their arrows eyebrows.

2. She shot me but did not pierce my heart, and broke,
My eyelids where swords of destruction appeared.

3. She shook to stab the lover's side with her erect figure,
Yet he is but a lover, not a warrior.

4. Thus my eyes are drowned in tears,
Floating, while my heart on embers melts.

5. Yet I become prisoner of her embrace,
With her tresses having bound my legs.

6. I mix with her a cup of her blame,
As the swimmer mixes with water when he drinks.

7. My love for her grows the more we unite,
As if, when with her, from her I'm absent.

8. When she appears she dispels worries,
And preoccupies you during arousal from your struggles.

9. She captivates minds with logic,
Bringing the dead to life through her conversation.

10. She stays up tending my cup of her reproach,
And none tastes life's joy who does not reproach.

11. We pick from the garden of speech what is delicious,
Pulling each other while embracing.

12. So ask not about the night of two lovers alone,
And their condition when distant from supervision.

13. Debauched, having indulged their love,
Each set free his desire, uncontrolled.

14. He who does not squander his love preserves his reason,
So his passion passes like false lightning.

15. To you I come, so despair not of calming me,
For milk does not return to the udder once drawn.

16. Love reigns over every potentate,
Even the unconquerable king.

17. Saleh Al-Baraya, the victorious king,
Whose ways of generosity are wondrous.

18. With resolute efforts he attained a rank
That stars kiss in the dust.

19. A youth who sees no hardship in exerting himself
When glory is the aim of his wishes.

20. One who preserved the noble and their rights,
A youth none reproached or blamed.

21. When the lion sleeps his cubs are seized
By the grasping hands of foxes.

22. One like Ahmed protects glory, trials
Having honed him in youth.

23. When he wages war, victory and opening
March ahead of his advancing troops.

24. Squadrons beneath standards throng about him,
Their spears made keen for him.

25. You see them mountains with peaks behind him,
Pushing back all who vie with them.

26. Their heights give shade as though they were,
When the hot wind blows, clouds.

27. If they lower spears in the onslaught, they seem
Upon the enemy a roused swarm.

28. There no soul escapes destruction,
No blood but from the sword flows.

29. No throat but by the spear is stabbed,
No head but by the sword is cloven.

30. I wonder at one who knows you're his ruin
If advice to you is tainted with deceit.

31. You seek purity and perceive
Those who do not reckon themselves or repent.

32. You know also your pardon is ample
For all wrongdoers who come penitent.

33. Yet this blinds and deafens him,
So he heeds the deceptive wishes.

34. But alas, you've driven them to deathbeds
Written, which nothing can erase.

35. Your pursuer cannot survive, so against whom you march,
The requitals of life are established.

36. Where can one flee you if he seeks
Escape, and who flees death survives?

37. A day will come when glory is forgotten,
And only heeding consequences is wise.

38. Your day is preserved while others
With sound opinion combat the morrow.
