1. He who is rewarded with patience for what he missed
And it was better than the forbidden he was granted

2. A man must accept what was made available to him
Whether it brought ease or hardship in his pursuit

3. So take it slowly with certainty
In sustenance from God, and gain from good deeds what improves you

4. And do not say greed requires it
Nor say seeking is futile

5. But combine seeking with an unavoidable cause
That saves the drowning, even after he swam

6. And man walks with fate wherever it went
With choice to distinguish good from evil

7. And God's will is inherent in causes
As the spirit's attachment to the human body

8. No wheat grew but in a cultivated field
No child was hoped for but by one married

9. Between the blinking of an eye and its opening
A subtlety from God draws near what receded

10. Do not despair, no state is permanent
If you told evil, "Do not budge," it will recede

11. How many stresses straitened a man, then relief
Came to him, and he awoke happy with it, joyed

12. Time has two days, so drink it thus and thus
Drink it whatever comes and drink it if bitter

13. And be patient with what makes you cry, days will return
God will make relief after distress

14. Seek nothing but in its likelihood
Whoever attains it will not miss success

15. And endeavors have times through which they are attained
No door is entered but after opened

16. Tomorrow will please you what you loathe tonight
Doubt will clear with truth made obvious

17. The victorious king knows what fate denied me
And stops it, so we reconcile

18. I had a pact with him in my time
So my fate today has not gathered against me

19. You blamed me to carelessness, so I wasted away
To protect you, which is a serious jest

20. I accepted your gift and his not giving
Knowing he advised, though not giving

21. I blame none but a fate wanting thereby
Less for me, surplus if favoring me

22. It brought down the lofty neck, and nights past
Praised God it was suggested

23. I praise him, no pretender describing one befitting him
One pretends beyond their capacity, shamed

24. No sword of a drawn sword resembles
The sword of Sa'd, nor spear of a throwing spear

25. You perfected until one passionately in you
Wished a fault to ward off the evil eye that glanced

26. You filled all hearts with love entire
With generosity and pardon for good or evil

27. And fear has filled the vales, all of them
See your sword and are not bold if it gashes

28. So say, with death's swords sheathed
And war fire's blaze calmed

29. Leave the high ambitions to their rouser
You meet praised for the intoxication of death

30. For Ahmad Abdallah's son, dress
The robe of resignation, and leave frivolity

31. God's love and love of God followed with

We count them living though slain

33. You vexed the enemy and pleased the loved one with what
You give and were not shy of the one praising

34. You succeeded, O party of the Lord of the worlds, and whoever
