1. Submit yourself to Allah's will in this matter
And let His decrees take their course as He desires

2. Be patient, for striving is but seeking
What is destined to come to you from where you know not

3. After every narrowness comes relief
And after hardship comes ease

4. Every state changes for its people
As this is the norm of fate's creation

5. When the Master is pleased with you
Then both good and evil are benign

6. Ask only for His approval in your intentions
Be not fooled by benefit or harm from Him

7. How many a lover drinks bitter infatuation
While the hated one finds bitterness sweet

8. Do good and you will find, if you slip, a helper
Whose eye weeps when the sinner is slain

9. Quench not your rage even if you gain victory
For piety, not fury, cures the heart's sickness

10. No rancor kills like that of the envious
Whose choice is pardon over drawing the sword

11. Who dies of rage, but the patient, victoriously
Without violating honor or rending the veil

12. Allah's saints deny vengeance in Allah's name
So what profit in loss did the vengeful earn?

13. Judging for oneself spites one's own soul
Neither judgment nor vengeance can command

14. Scholars agree: to judge and avenge
Oneself is among the greatest sins

15. He was the judge, complainant and witness
If witnesses spoke of Amr, he would say

16. "Their testimony is useless; my will prevails"
Had this been hidden, we could understand

17. But with no peer or superior to restrain
Or censure his lapse, what can we say?

18. If he knew his wrong, a disaster; if not, worse-
To judge unjustly in ignorance!
