1. I unfurled the furniture of darkness upon dawn
And washed polished white from the pupil

2. So look to the reed one plucks from the pupil
And marvel at a dawn in your gloomy state

3. The deer-like of stature since she exposed her glances
Her arrows hunted hearts with creation

4. And since she smiled, her cheeks in their bloom
Troubled in the waterholes, the redness of dusk

5. If she sways like a bough or sprinkles
With a glance the smitten on parchment

6. Hope for rescue from blows and stabs but hope not
For rescue from the matter of beauty and charm

7. O Hind, my blood is on the neck of its shedder
So fear Allah, she said, there is no blood on my neck

8. My killing of beautiful creations is the doing of their Creator
And I am no sinner, save that my creation brought ruin

9. I wondered at the sickness in her eyes and breasts
Pomegranate blossoms from every illness remained

10. And her glances fast while having hung
On palms, nor her wrists, the redness of tattoos

11. As Ahmad distinguished by affliction his creed
Other than malice, and malice by lightning and thunder

12. Al-Nasir the King, son of al-Ashraf the King, son of
Al-Afdal the King, son of the leader of all

13. Whom if counted, his beauties cannot be numbered
And he who tries counting the stars did not manage

14. He gives generously and is pleased with little, pleased
Forgiving, neither sullen nor spiteful

15. Calamities are smaller to his resolve
Than that anxiety pass the eye with wakefulness

16. And a monkey who climbed a rock
Escaping, or a fox who took to a burrow

17. Of no use to the spear is its entrance into the coat of mail
From the entrance of the rupturing needle into the rip

18. They are in your hands so there is no escape for them
From misfortune nor refuge from anxiety

19. How many an ignorant one expectations carried
From ignorance to ignorance and it destroyed him

20. Until he imagined death to be wellbeing
And that he had avoided what is pledged by the fettered

21. So I came to him from beyond his expectations spreading out
What he did not take into account and he leapt not having leapt

22. Your neighbors spoke after standing
Saying: The span of creation does not extend like creation

23. In the world varied beauties in you combined
And the ability to combine is not found in separation

24. O you who try from him other than his traits
To return good as evil not conforming

25. The ease of water refuses what does not agree with it
Smooth except what hopes from ways

26. You hoped for pardon and did not hope for flattery
From the wrongdoer in a state of rage and hatred

27. And you were better to them than they and they made
Their throats from the ropes of death by the lightning

28. You were forbearing and did not hasten to shed blood
Until they came to you with no fabricated excuse

29. They did not plot evil or harbor any
To break a pact, but the wretched is wretched

30. You released some out of grace and honor
So the others clung to them—have mercy on those remaining

31. I cannot appease you about a people
Who in your hands are the place of sword and shackles

32. You are self-sufficient, and through you none gain self-sufficiency
So have mercy on your loyalists and save them from drowning

33. And do not say, ‘It was said to me about them,’ for no one
Envies or hates you

34. And grant them the likes of what they said, and forbid them
For your pardon to the repentant does not weary

35. They did not err, but Allah intended a grace
That fills the land with, a fresh pleasurable scent

36. For it is a foolish story, if attributed
To the insane, it would not seem well or meet

37. You seized them with the seizure of a tyrant and guided them
To safety, the leading of the compassionate gentle one

38. And you obeyed no one in killing them out of nobility
Rather you said: O pardon, in me do as you wish and trust

39. So complete the grace and make that which you grant generously
For Allah through them, and look not to chains

40. And bring them tomorrow protected around you
In the Khuz and Qaz above the lofty plateau

41. And hear by your permission and look how many a hand I outstretch
That calls and folds, and how much coherent speech

42. Astonished by traits that no king before you
Attained, or a created being took on

43. Great pardon, and replacing evil with good,
And overlooking flaws—O how pure!
