1. O auspicious king, bird of good omen,
We feel secure in your protection from harm.
١. يا أَيها الملك الميمون طائره
يمناً أَمنّا به مما نحاذرهُ
2. When the hopeful comes to quench his thirst,
His sources give him what he desires.
٢. ومن إِذا ورد الراجي مناهله
عادت عليه بما يهوى مصادره
3. You are hoped for and feared, but the fear
Is coupled with good hope, for you forgive greatly.
٣. ترجى وتخشى ولكن خشيةٌ معها
حسن الرَّجا في عظيم أَنت غافره
4. Fear of lightning does not make people seek
Refuge from the living against its first flashes.
٤. خوف الصواعق لا يلقى الأَنام إِلى
سلو هم عن حياً جاءت بواكره
5. My soul is yours, which increased my longing,
Quickly answered, for you are present.
٥. نفسي فداؤك مما زادني طمعاً
أَبطا يسير جواب أَنت حاضره
6. The clouds, heavy in movement, I return them,
Evil and swift, subduing what they contain.
٦. والسحبُ أَثقلها في السير أَعودها
وبلاً وأَعجلها ما خفَّ ما طره
7. The nights have indeed kept me awake, but they have
No power to shake great bones that you mend.
٧. إِنَّ الليالي هاضتنيِ وليس لها
فيما ترى هيضُ عظمٍ أَنت جابره
8. If you wished, no blame would touch me for my time,
Powerless to harm with you as my ally.
٨. لو شئت ما ناب لي عتب على زمني
لعجزه عن أَذى من أَنت ناصره
9. I did not seek you until longing drove me,
Stirred by your abundant grace.
٩. وما قصدتَك حتى حثّني طمعٌ
يحثه منك فضلٌ أَنت ناشِره
10. Yet I, your hopeful petitioner, fear more than others
That my eyes' contentment may revert.
١٠. وإن راجيك دون الناس أحذرهم
بأن يعود بما قرّت نواظره
