1. O you who take pride in being king of all people
Keep away from patched up, fabricated words

2. It is not poetry that is sublime, but rather poetry
And its masters are made sublime through praising you

3. People deafened a poet with poetry about you
And sought every purpose

4. Indeed, the favor is for the king over us
If we praise him with strange words

5. My ambition fell short of praising him
Indeed, the least of his generosity is like pouring clouds

6. Or likening his steadfastness to a lion
I would have reached the epitome of blame

7. Al-Ashraf ibn Abbas is indeed the king
A life in these bodies

8. O owner of necks through inheritance
And generosity, position and sword

9. I am one of those who calls out to you
With sincere hope and after much purpose

10. Whenever I attempted explaining my state to you
I was confused whether to stop or move forward

11. A hope urging me from behind
And majesty standing before me

12. So listen to the explanation of my story and help me
O savior of all people and helper of mankind

13. I was tempted by profit and trade
Taking me to far-off goals

14. I traversed lands and seas
Seeking profit, tightening my belt

15. Then when Allah made easy what wealth He willed
After my long confusion

16. Allah led me to the land of Zabid
And delusions of grandeur left me

17. My trade fell into recession there
And I continued in my infatuation with worries

18. Not a year passed there
Except I was perplexed in obtaining food

19. And I owed over two thousand cash
And behold, opponents sought to oppose me

20. I came to you fleeing so you relieved the affliction
And repelled the events of time

21. My state was corrected and grew
So thanks to you, O noble one

22. And my hope in you is that you will pay off the debt
And I spend my nights free of worries

23. If a heart you have settled, and it is my heart
Has no place for worries to stay

24. If debtors have straitened my heart
Save me from them, as you saved on Judgement Day

25. Save me from them with a line of ink
Over a final sentence with some words
