1. He who contends with lions in their dens, takes a risk
If they repel him, he will be driven back in distress

2. And he who casts stones at lofty mansions
Will be injured if but one small pebble strikes him in return

3. Gently, not every day misfortune comes from running away
How many have fled to safety and not returned

4. Invite not evil to you, though it come in festive guise
Evil is quick to answer when 'tis called and summoned

5. Let not Ahmad's house be destroyed through neglect
In it assemble many fools who cause distress

6. His forgiving you ensures not loss by haste
A man's ability protects him from panic

7. O you who oppose him! You are not a vigilant man
Your hearing aids you before your eyes can apprehend

8. You have burdened yourself beyond your means through ignorance
One who contends feebly with the mighty will be overthrown

9. I have heard you, yet he whom fate drives on
Can but follow the course that is prescribed

10. Hearts grow blind when destiny arrives, so neither
Keen-sighted nor keen-hearing remain aware

11. How can an ear still hear or an eye still see
When God has set His seal on them at last?

12. Choose what you wish for yourself, and act as you desire
A man reaps only what he sows, not what he hopes to gain

13. Tomorrow you will see - God's help will come to him
Grief has enveloped the army and the plains together

14. And it will be shown you were deluded by your power
When your face changes color and grows dim

15. Saying: would that I had done good works before
Punishment awaits the guilty man for what he has wrought

16. Grasp firmly the rope from Him, hold fast
You will find Him generous, never withdrawn

17. He rewards, forgives, hates and envies not
Rather, he who works for the welfare of Muslims strives aright

18. Only when asked for aid is he inclined to deceive
The noble king whose lofty qualities that shone forth

19. In both worlds like the dawn when it glows bright
Shows us each day fresh instances of his generosity

20. Marvels he created in munificence, origination
He can solve by his patience however difficult the situation

21. Though the land shrink from the vastness of calamity
What he cannot resolve by patience a mighty resolve

22. That disdains to be shaken however dire the distress
When brought by a wretch, sin seems slight

23. Rather than borne by a noble man in dignity
O best of kings, in whom all merit came together

24. Dispersed in creation, combined in his noble person
If I complain of my time to anyone, I complain to

25. The silent one - who else suffers time's distress?
Life is but trial, affairs confusion

26. Breast is straitened, while you are far away
Did not hopes and expectations converse with me

27. Lightening the burden of what has come to pass
He who was not sustained by the son of Ismail

28. Would be torn nights between them piece by piece
Truly I love you, knowing well the unique

29. Perfection of your nature, wherein all virtues rest
I am not extravagant in affection, an innovator

30. Nor neglectful in aloofness, regressing to blame
If we shared your good pleasure by what we love

31. My portion therein would be but a small part
Thanks be to God - in Ahmad I have hope

32. That renews itself toward him each day afresh
