1. They said: love and coo, Khaybar won't harm you,
That's the religion of Jews, yet they are miserable.
١. وَقالوا اِحبُ وَاِنهَق لا تَضيرُكَ خَيبَرٌ
وَذَلِكَ مِن دينِ اليَهودِ وَلوعُ
2. By my life, if I live in fear of misfortune,
I'll bray like donkeys. I'm really miserable.
٢. لَعَمري لَئِن عَشَّرتُ مِن خَشيَةِ الرَدى
نُهاقَ الحَميرِ إِنَّني لَجَزوعُ
3. Those souls didn't come to the gardens of ancestors,
While they were all together.
٣. فَلا وَأَلَت تِلكَ النُفوسُ وَلا أَتَت
عَلى رَوضَةِ الأَجدادِ وَهِيَ جَميعُ
4. How come, when I have sobered up and my flanks grew stronger,
Sulayma is with me, an obedient listener.
٤. فَكَيفَ وَقَد ذَكَّيتُ وَاِشتَدَّ جانِبي
سُلَيمى وَعِندي سامِعٌ وَمُطيعُ
5. A sharp tongue, a sharp sword and a guard,
And an opinion matching the views of courageous men.
٥. لِسانٌ وَسَيفٌ صارِمٌ وَحَفيظَةٌ
وَرَأيٌ لِآراءِ الرِجالِ صَروعُ
6. The fear of death worries me, and there have passed
Ancestral tribes - Qais and Rabi'a together.
٦. تَخَوِّفُني رَيبَ المَنونُ وَقَد مَضى
لَنا سَلَفٌ قَيسٌ مَعاً وَرَبيعُ
