1. A youth devoted to yearning for your meeting, baptized
The fetter of patience towards loved ones lost

2. Expatriated from family and homeland
Finding through endurance what isn’t found

3. Bereft, having wept blood after the tears
As though what he wants is in his eyes the aim

4. Fire with fuel in his soul for longing
And furrowed cheeks for the tears to flow

5. O you who shame the sun in dawning, a young man
Rose in his abode one fortunate day

6. You captivated my heart though veiled from my sight
Perplexed, so proximity meant distance

7. You built away from me, so my eye contends
With tears, and my heart is tried because of you

8. Indeed the state of passion in grief
His unchecked tears and restrained heart concur

9. The phantom didn’t visit, as the door is barred
By the eyelid’s curtain when bowed in slumber

10. I stayed up gazing at stars that shine
Until in them comfort for me appeared

11. How I count sorrow as I count for it
Days of estrangement, so my life is counting

12. Loves, the days of ill health played with us
After you, so to our past love return

13. If the garden of that beautiful face doesn’t find me a paradise
Then would that the water of his lips were my drink

14. If only my patience from my heart in your absence
Was a way out, would that sleep was repelled

15. If only my time without you was condemned
For my destination is the praised Ishmael

16. Al-Ashraf king, son of the Excellent son of Ali
Son of the Supported, protector of the rule of David

17. Bestowing pure grace, pour of his comfort
Though abundant, gift of the weary and faint

18. Withholding the steeds where the land is blood
Of those who opposed, in its dusty cheek channeling

19. Sparks flew and gazelles fled
What but bodies fuels the fire lit?

20. The subjects slept, while lightning heart quivered
In awe of it, and by the star’s eyebow calmed

21. Secured them from woes, the rising of a dawning
Its fortunes heralded victory from the first light

22. The caller to dew said amongst the people, “Rise
For the best of prayers, the time is present”

23. And the enemy heralded in the state straightaway
Saying to the poor: “O you enemies, hand over!”

24. Their heads bowed in awe from the term
And the piercing sight in the eyelid subdued

25. The darkness of the sparks from the rising of his dawn
Illuminated, escalating in the horizon

26. If he said, “We sought peace from generosity.”
What can be said to us in war? Say: They hunted.

27. Or he said, “We veiled the land in fair faces.”
What are the colors of our enemies’ faces? Say: Blackened.

28. Content with piety, dew, forbearance, his rule
So strange for a thing restricted yet generous

29. Judgments’ implementation and honesty in vows
Do you know that Ishmael is David?

30. Through his great honor the world is honored
So Zubaid, justice and kindness there perpetuated

31. If one seeking kindness is ignorant of a king
Other than him, the custom of his gifts is known

32. The traits of generosity beamed on his birthday
Before the birthdates are done

33. Seek provision from his right hand, O you whose supporter is few
For from the palm of that hand you are given increase

34. Repel your worries if being called in his feast of joy
Brings prosperity, for the opposite in his feast is spurned

35. He secured the universe from fear and illuminated it
His young white sons or old fathers hunted

36. He ascended above the rank of Bahram
Surpassing the kingdom, neither Chosroes nor Fridoun

37. His hands adorned us with necklaces, so excellently
From us it elicited praise and mimetic discipline

38. Interpreting his noble deeds for our hopes
Beyond Abu Abbas in precise interpretation

O just sovereign, his lofty kingdom

40. A place of descent, and in fairness its groundwork
O most generous, here are our goods

41. Eulogies offered and inadequacy found
I crossed the sea journeying

42. My heart ever pining and lamenting
Deprived of the joy of my life when it ended there

43. While a beloved and affectionate friend departed
The cups of worries intoxicated me there

44. Dancing and floating amongst its waves
My heart sterile from what it fasted of joy

45. There, and the day I see your grove is celebration
You looked at me kindly and magnanimously

46. So listen to sincere praise that affirms
If excellent odes I did not profess

47. Then by vigor today my mind is bound
And my thoughts barren from what I met

48. Not producing the like of what creation pleases
The kindness you have for the foreign weak

49. Travels the land and eternally the horizons
Adorn my neck with the necklace of dew, may

50. From my poetry and rhyme for you on pages singing be
And a king who straightens generations will graze
