1. A lover who suffers when you abandon him
Since you left, sorrowful and weeping

3. Oh, my loved ones! How you severed even an apparition
I excuse you, no, my heartache does not subside

4. By the life of intimacy, I have not forgotten your promise
Even if in distance, my soul is tormented

5. Ask the stars, they witness I spend nights sleepless
Otherwise, would slumber in the gloom comfort me?

6. I peruse books for distraction
To relieve my journeying with news that brings us together

7. I spend my days in tales and wishes
At night no sympathizer joins in my agony

8. Except that I weep for you and complain
To He who sees what is in my conscience and hears

9. A gift and a pledge of your affection reminds me
But in my sorrows I choke and suffer

10. And my tears resemble carnelian in their flow
There they spring from my eyes

11. The maidens said: "Reunion may come" but how rare their signs!
Yes, if I live, joyous reunion will come

12. But who in separation hopes to live?
Will I meet Lady Zain after dwellings parted us

13. And the one bidding farewell returned?
Will I soon see that happy child Farha

14. As I left her still nursing?
Her young age made our separation bitter

15. So the bell of regret clangs for her
By God, I did not leave out of boredom

16. Does one tire of a wellspring where he draws water?
But destitution required my estrangement

17. My striving so they may prosper in the land
If the Generous Lord gracefully facilitates

18. I will return, happy like those who return
So, my critic, be gentle with my heart

19. For it weeps and breaks over those I left
Graying, worry, frailty, and expatriation

20. And without the company of loved ones, one crumbles
I endured the bitterness of patience, hoping

21. It would cure me, but patience is what I keep sipping
I was ruled by an unjust judge

22. More humiliating to me than past glory and might
The best I have is silence, for who do I complain to?

23. Or who do I plead with?
I am absent from my friends, bearing burdens from them

24. And submitting while days do not submit to me
The grace of the eminent Shaykh spreads and beams

25. To others, smiling and shining
I hesitate for him to accept my complaint intentionally

26. And with what is apparent or hidden, I am content
I raised my case to the son of Ali

27. And I hope through this my fortune is raised
To the unique Judge, the most Sublime, who

28. Has a praise that transcends musk's scent
A ruler, if messengers of generosity are late

29. His generosity comes to them rushing
In him, with the Lofty Ordainment, is humility

30. And from base deeds, aloofness
A determination that unsheathes swords, and verily

31. It is sharper than the Yemeni sword and more cutting
A clemency the lofty mountain emulated

32. The seeker of refuge gains honor and protection from it
A generosity the rain emulated, and rain is pouring

33. But its flow cannot be prevented for long
A ruler, if you recite your praise poem to him

34. Light from glad tidings appears in his face
He is humble when he walks upon the ground

35. And above the ground, how lofty is his ascent
His pen, in some of its ink

36. Honors loved ones and suppresses enemies
It exhales fragrance, and is plucked, delights companions

37. Wounds foes - so it is a branch with varied grace
None cuts ties with one who connects

38. Nor connects ties with one who cuts
Oh son of nobles, hear the complaint of an isolated

39. Stranger, who has a sail hoisted in your sea of generosity
The vast world narrowed around me

40. And if the world narrowed, your pardon is vaster
For you I have an untakable devotion

41. Does solid bedrock shake with tremors?
If you do not treat your slave with favor

42. Then who after me is deserving of such kindness?
If you have been told slander about me

43. Then your informant is the most treacherous and deceitful
They saw you inclining to disfavor your slave

44. So they spoke and added what they wanted and rushed
Had you observed affection, you would not have leaned to them

45. With an ear God protects you from forevermore
How can one of reason oppose your family

46. The People of Ali are deserving of devotion
Your backing is warmer than the morning sun for its enemy

47. And your arm is more beneficial for its right
I will praise you forever as you deserve

48. My sea of eulogy for you is overflowing
And say to me, if you are not fooled by my praises

49. Do you not know one who is generous is susceptible to deception?
One who sows blessings in a noble land

50. Will reap multiples of what the shadowed sower reaps
Poetry is only beneath your worth

51. What equals in worth a seller and a finger?
But the noble made it their habit to listen

52. And revere its composer who takes such effort
Not all who recite verse are eloquent in speech

53. Nor are all talented ones originating
Surpassing all the boldest have expressed

54. Live in felicity, honor, bounty
Contesting the peaks of glory, sprouting

55. None can elevate the rank of one who abases himself
Nor abase the rank of one whom you raise
