١. لَعَلَّ خَيالَ العامِرِيَّةِ زائِرُ
فَيُسعَدَ مَهجورٌ وَيُسعَدَ هاجِرُ

2. Long were the nights between you and I, blissful
Though with contentment from union I would not suffice

٢. وَقَد كُنتُ لا أَرضى مِنَ الوَصلِ بِالرِضا
لَيالِيَ ما بَيني وَبَينَكَ عامِرُ

3. At dusk I yearn for you, led by enduring passion
While the Pleiades their beauty to me entice

٣. وَإِنّي عَلى طولِ الشِماسِ عَنِ الصِبا
أَحِنُّ وَتُصبيني إِلَيكِ الجَآذِرُ

4. If in wakefulness our meeting I cannot find
A visiting phantom shall give comfort to my eyes

٤. وَإِنّي إِذا لَم أَرجُ يَقظانَ وَصلَها
لَيُقنِعُني مِنها الخَيالُ المُزاوِرُ

5. In both abodes of Khiḍr some maiden resides
Veiled from the spears of warriors by curtains precise

٥. وَفي كِلَّتَي ذاكَ الخِباءِ خَريدَةٌ
لَها مِن طِعانِ الدارِعينَ سَتائِرُ

6. She says, when armored I come to her, a visitor
"Of passion or revenge - which brings you here in guise?"

٦. تَقولُ إِذا ماجِئتُها مُتَدَرِّعاً
أَزائِرُ شَوقٍ أَنتَ أَم أَنتَ ثائِرُ

7. I said, "Nay, neither, but a visit I pay
That dares dangers, with motives pure and wise"

٧. فَقُلتُ لَها كَلّا وَلَكِن زِيارَةٌ
تُخاضُ الحُتوفُ دونَها وَالمَحاذِرُ

8. Did a delicate branch sway, or her figure dance?
Did a gloomy night pass, or shining locks arise?

٨. تَثَنَّت فَغُصنٌ ناعِمٌ أَم شَمائِلٌ
وَوَلَّت فَلَيلٌ فاحِمٌ أَم غَدائِرُ

9. As estrangement prolongs, the phantom visiting
Shall please my eyes, when union from me is prised

٩. فَأَمّا وَقَد طالَ الصُدودُ فَإِنَّهُ
يَقَرُّ بِعَينَيَّ الخَيالُ المُزاوِرُ

10. The maiden of the clan sleeps, careless of me
While around I the vigils of dusk synergize

١٠. تَنامُ فَتاةُ الحَيِّ عَنّي خَلِيَّةً
وَقَد كَثُرَت حَولي البَواكي السَواهِرُ

11. The dust of the wilds brings me joy for her sake
Though it vexes the homes and mansioned prides

١١. وَتُسعِدُني غُبرُ البَوادي لِأَجلِها
وَإِن رَغِمَت بَينَ البُيوتِ الحَواضِرُ

12. For by her glance - which I never expected -
My fate to her, irresistibly, allies

١٢. وَما هِيَ إِلّا نَظرَةٌ ما اِحتَسَبتُها
بِعَدّانَ صارَت بي إِلَيها المَصايِرُ

13. With her I rose, and the caravan and tribe
Bewildered, facing beauty that tantalizes

١٣. طَلَعتُ بِها وَالرَكبُ وَالحَيُّ كُلُّهُ
حَيارى إِلى وَجهٍ بِهِ الحُسنُ حائِرُ

14. Never from the garden of beauty did she travel
But to whisper over homes that tranquilize

١٤. وَما سَفَرَت عَن رَيِّقِ الحُسنِ إِنَّما
نَمَمنَ عَلى ما تَحتَهُنَّ المَعاجِرُ

15. My soul, after madness of passion's renewal
My heart, after roving sights did chasten eyes

١٥. فَيا نَفسُ مالاقَيتِ مِن لاعِجِ الهَوى
وَياقَلبُ ماجَرَّت عَلَيكَ النَواظِرُ

16. My virtue, why do you and I, whenever
I desire a thing, dissuade with warning cries?

١٦. وَيا عِفَّتي مالي وَما لَكَ كُلَّما
هَمَمتُ بِأَمرٍ هَمَّ لي مِنكَ زاجِرُ

17. As if honor, chastity, reason and piety
For the ladies veiled, were but trivial lies

١٧. كَأَنَّ الحِجا وَالصَونُ وَالعَقلُ وَالتُقى
لَدَيَّ لِرَبّاتِ الخُدورِ ضَرائِرُ

18. They, though I avoided what they craved of me
Were to me, since young, the dearest of ties

١٨. وَهُنَّ وَإِن جانَبتُ ما يَشتَهينَهُ
حَبائِبُ عِندي مُنذُ كُنَّ أَثائِرُ

19. How many nights did I spend, praising them
While no eyes rested, nor sentinels comprised

١٩. وَكَم لَيلَةٍ خُضتُ الأَسِنَّةَ نَحوَها
وَما هَدَأَت عَينٌ وَلا نامَ سامِرُ

20. When alone we were - God alone knows -
Noble was the discourse, secrets safe inside

٢٠. فَلَمّا خَلَونا يَعلَمُ اللَهُ وَحدُهُ
لَقَد كَرُمَت نَجوى وَعَفَّت سَرائِرُ

21. I remain, while people think of me their thoughts
My robe is clean, though people vilify

٢١. وَبِتُّ يَظُنُّ الناسُ فِيَّ ظُنونَهُم
وَثَوبِيَ مِمّا يَرجُمُ الناسُ طاهِرُ

22. How many nights, til dawn, in secrecy
I walked, no poet knew, none testified

٢٢. وَكَم لَيلَةٍ ماشَيتُ بَدرَ تَمامِها
إِلى الصُبحِ لَم يَشعُر بِأَمرِيَ شاعِرُ

23. No doubt, but our talk was like strung pearls
Scattered, shining, though hushed, dignified

٢٣. وَلا رَيبَةٌ إِلّا الحَديثُ كَأَنَّهُ
جُمانٌ وَهى أَو لُؤلُؤٌ مُتَناثِرُ

24. I say this as the adornments sound, and dawn
No sign appears, that morning will revive

٢٤. أَقولُ وَقَد ضَجَّ الحُلِيُّ وَأَشرَفَت
وَلَم أُروَ مِنها لِلصَباحِ بَشائِرُ

25. "O Lord, even antimony we fear, and dread
The whiteness of dawn - omens we decry"

٢٥. أَيا رَبِّ حَتّى الحَليُ مِمّا نَخافُهُ
وَحَتّى بَياضُ الصُبحِ مِمّا نُحاذِرُ

26. For me, you stir madness with your youth
And chasten me, virtue's strictness implied

٢٦. وَلي فيكِ مِن فَرطِ الصَبابَةِ آمِرٌ
وَدونَكِ مِن حُسنِ الصَيانَةِ زاجِرُ

27. But man's virtue is to conquer his desires
Not veil his eyes, when able to descry

٢٧. عَفافُكَ غَيٌّ إِنَّما عِفَّةُ الفَتى
إِذا عَفَّ عَن لَذّاتِهِ وَهْوَ قادِرُ

28. Grief is dispelled by my will to fight villains
My heart obeys my every thought and cry

٢٨. نَفى الهَمَّ عَنّي هِمَّةٌ عَدَوِيَّةٌ
وَقَلبٌ عَلى ماشِئتُ مِنهُ مُظاهِرُ

29. My skin is darker than can be drawn by pens
And whiter than what Indian swords imply

٢٩. وَأَسمَرُ مِمّا يُنبِتُ الخَطُّ ذابِلٌ
وَأَبيَضُ مِمّا تَطبَعُ الهِندُ باتِرُ

30. A soul that finds family in every land
And in every clan, hearths to fraternize

٣٠. وَنَفسٌ لَها في كُلِّ أَرضٍ لُبانةٌ
وَفي كُلِّ حَيٍّ أُسرَةٌ وَمَعاشِرُ

31. A heart that welcomes war while making war
A spirit that strengthens the frame when allies

٣١. وَقَلبٌ يُقِرُّ الحَربَ وَهْوَ مُحارِبٌ
وَعَزمٌ يُقيمُ الجِسمَ وَهوَ مُسافِرُ

32. If I find no kinsmen in each valley and ridge
Yet the noble find noble ancestry

٣٢. إِذا لَم أَجِد في كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَشيرَةً
فَإِنَّ الكِرامَ لِلكِرامِ عَشائِرُ

33. The protected children of Laḥiq we are
Trustworthy, where the feet of mares relied

٣٣. وَلاحِقَةِ الإِطلَينِ مِن نَسلِ لاحِقٍ
أَمينَةَ ما نِطَت إِلَيهِ الحَوافِرُ

34. From La'la refuses obstinacy, when
At holy Muzdalifa, faces prostrate lie

٣٤. مِنَ اللاءِ تَأبى أَن تُعانِدَ رَبَّها
إِذا حُسِرَت عِندَ المُغارِ المَآزِرُ

35. Slow Kharija, though her calves fatigue me
I take on what racers could not survive

٣٥. وَخَرقاءُ وَرقاءُ بَطيءٌ كَلالُها
تَكَلَّفُ بي ما لا تُطيقُ الأَباعِرُ

36. My Ghuraibiyya mare, having outlasted
The noonday heat, till the water-skin was dry

٣٦. غُرَيرِيَّةٌ صافَت شَقائِقَ دابِقٍ
مَدى قَيظَها حَتّى تَصَرَّمَ ناجِرُ

37. Which the herder soured with whey of Burha's milk
Sipping from his goatskin as she drank deep by

٣٧. وَحَمَّضَها الراعي بِمَيثاءِ بُرهَةً
تَناوَلَ مِن خِذرافِهِ وَتُغادِرُ

38. She stayed with Shayban, then took refuge
In remnants of Ṣafwan, where views tranquilize

٣٨. أَقامَت بِها شَيبانَ ثُمَّ تَضَمَّنَت
بَقِيَّةَ صَفوانٍ قِراها المَناظِرُ

39. She raced at Samawah, her tail whipping the ground
Till the months in their rounds completed a cycle

٣٩. وَخَوَّضَها بَطنَ السَلَوطَحِ رَيثَما
أُديرَت بِمِلحانَ الشُهورُ الدَوائِرُ

40. Then she came to Kawma’ bearing her saddle
You'd think her gear was packed and ready to ride

٤٠. فَجاءَ بِكَوماءٍ إِذا هِيَ أَقبَلَت
حَسِبتَ عَلَيها رَحلَها وَهيَ حاسِرُ

41. How far are the soft sands of Kalb from her!
How near is the goal the rider hopes to descry!

٤١. فَيا بُعدَ نابَينَ الكَلالِ وَبَينَها
وَياقُربَ مايَرجو عَلَيها المُسافِرُ

42. Leave the homeland whose people irk you
And forget those abundant kin ties imply

٤٢. دَعِ الوَطَنَ المَألوفَ رابَكَ أَهلُهُ
وَعُدَّ عَنِ الأَهلِ الَّذينَ تَكاثَروا

43. Your family are the sincere, loving ones
Though buildings fall, tribes disband, bonds untie

٤٣. فَأَهلُكَ مَن أَصفى وَوُدُّكَ ماصَفا
وَإِن نَزَحَت دارٌ وَقَلَّت عَشائِرُ

44. We took over Mayadhin, though it lacked protectors
A place to build glories that edify

٤٤. تَبَوَّأتُ مِن قَرمَي مَعَدٍّ كِلَيهِما
مَكاناً أَراني كَيفَ تُبنى المَفاخِرُ

45. My ancestry - if Saʿīd was its root
Its branch serves Sayf al-Dawla, that lion ally

٤٥. لَئِن كانَ أَصلي مِن سَعيدٍ نِجارُهُ
فَفَرعي لِسَيفِ الدَولَةِ القَرمِ ناصِرُ

46. The first cannot benefit without the last
Crowning glory needs founding deeds justified

٤٦. وَما كانَ لَولاهُ لِيَنفَعَ أَوَّلٌ
إِذا لَم يُزَيِّن أَوَّلَ المَجدِ آخِرُ

47. By your life! Vision helps not the seeing man
If insight within him is lacking, no eye

٤٧. لَعَمرُكَ ما الأَبصارُ تَنفَعُ أَهلَها
إِذا لَم يَكُن لِلمُبصِرينَ بَصائِرُ

48. Can the writer do good, if not well-read?
Do gems shine, if not polished and purified?

٤٨. وَهَل يَنفَعُ الخَطِّيُّ غَيرَ مُثَقَّفٍ
وَتَظهَرُ إِلّا بِالصَقالِ الجَواهِرُ

49. With his merit, I defend my people's honor
Boasting, till no peer I see, glorified

٤٩. أُناضِلُ عَن أَحسابِ قَومي بِفَضلِهِ
وَأَفخَرُ حَتّى لا أَرى مَن يُفاخِرُ

50. I seek things, girded, driving his vision
Reliant on his guidance, hopes fortified

٥٠. وَأَسعى لِأَمرٍ عُدَّتي لِمَنالِهِ
أَواخَيَّ مِن آرائِهِ وَأَواصِرُ

51. Say to the rider challenging with spear shafts -
Stop! Tiwal's racers you'll never defy

٥١. أَيا راكِباً تُحدى بِأَعوادِ رَحلِهِ
عُذافِرَةٌ عَيرانَةٌ وَعُذافِرُ

52. Send, if you please, to Bakr's clans my verses
Traveling to them through spacious sands far and wide

٥٢. أَلِكني إِلى أَفناءِ بَكرٍ رِسالَةً
عَلى نَأيِها وَهيَ القَوافي السَوائِرُ

53. If one place estranges, our love stays true
No pact fades, bonds remain tied

٥٣. لَئِن باعَدَتكُم نِيَّةٌ طالَ شَحطُها
لَقَد قَرَّبَتكُم نِيَّةٌ وَضَمائِرُ

54. It spreads your praise, that shall not fade, like
Yaman's lineages, broadcasting far and wide

٥٤. وَنَشرُ ثَناءٍ لايَغِبُّ كَأَنَّما
بِهِ نَشَرَ العَصبَ اليَمانِيَّ ناشِرُ

55. Through us, God's faith has might and protection
Through us, God's faith has sword and fortified

٥٥. وَيَجمَعُنا في وائِلٍ عَشَرِيَّةٌ
وَوِدٌّ وَأَرحامٌ هُناكَ شَواجِرُ

56. They gave refuge to the displaced Caliph
When no friend offered aid, none by his side

٥٦. فَقُل لِبَني وَرقاءَ إِن شَطَّ مَنزِلٌ
فَلا العَهدُ مَنسِيٌّ وَلا الوِدُّ داثِرُ

57. They restored him until he ruled from his throne
Though around it, twenty thousand deaths vied

٥٧. وَكَيفَ يَرِثُّ الحَبلُ أَو تَضعُفُ القِوى
وَقَد قَرُبَت قُربى وَشُدَّت أَواصِرُ

58. They managed the Muslims' affairs so wise
God, Islam and Faith gratified

٥٨. أَبا أَحمَدٍ مَهلاً إِذا الفَرعُ لَم يَطِب
فَلا طِبنَ يَومَ الإِفتِخارِ العَناصِرُ

59. When ʿAlaja of Iraq, Ibn Rā’iq’s scourge swelled
They cured the insolence none could rectify

٥٩. أَتَسمو بِما شادَت أَوائِلُ وائِلٍ
وَقَد غَمَرَت تِلكَ الأَوالي الأَواخِرُ

60. Arabs of pedigree built his edifice
Among them, scourging vengeance personified

٦٠. أَيَشغَلُكُم وَصفُ القَديمِ وَدونَهُ
مَفاخِرُ فيها شاغِلٌ وَمَآثِرُ

61. He made Al-ʿAlā’ taste his evil fruits
Foul treasons beget consequences denied

٦١. لَنا أَوَّلٌ في المَكرُماتِ وَآخِرٌ
وَباطِنُ مَجدٍ تَغلَبِيٍّ وَظاهِرُ

62. He crushed the Turks when Munʿim was shamed
His gifts could not make base betrayal hide

٦٢. وَهَل يُطلَبُ العِزُّ الَّذي هُوَ غائِبٌ
وَيُترَكُ ذا العِزُّ الَّذي هُوَ حاضِرُ

63. He pierced Homs with the sword for sixty nights

Qustanṭīn thought our advance would be denied

٦٦. تَحَمَّلَ قَتلاها وَساقَ دِياتِها
حَمولٌ لِما جَرَّت عَلَيهِ الجَرائِرُ

67. We marched along the Euphrates banks as though
Ships sailed below, sails billowing with the tide

٦٧. وَذِيْ ماءَةً لَولاهُ جَرَّت دِمائُهُم
مَوارِدَ مَوتٍ مالَهُنَّ مَصادِرُ

68. We came to Arqnayn, driving their women
Their heels bleeding, the sheltered terrified

٦٨. وَمِنّا الَّذي ضافَ الإِمامَ وَجَيشِهِ
وَلا جودَ إِلّا أَن تَضيفَ العَساكِرُ

69. At Yarmouk, we turned south to Marj Rahith
A fighter continuously God glorified

٦٩. وَجَدّي الَّذي اِنتاشَ الدِيارَ وَأَهلَها
وَلِلدَهرِ نابٌ فيهِمُ وَأَظافِرُ

70. When the Romans saw the Dhul-Qarnayn host retreat
Their resolves returned, sights clarified

٧٠. ثَلاثَةُ أَعوامٍ يُكابِدُ مَحلَها
أَشَمُّ طَويلُ الساعِدَينِ عُراعِرُ

71. Never relenting, they chargéd till bloodied
Horses and men in the fray terrorized

٧١. فَآبوا بِجَدواهُ وَآبَ بِشُكرِهِم
وَما مِنهُمُ في صَفقَةِ المَجدِ خاسِرُ

72. Half our army made Jawlan plunder
The noble rewarding, threatening those who vied

٧٢. وَكَيفَ يُنالُ المَجدُ وَالجِسمُ وادِعٌ
وَكَيفَ يُحازُ الحَمدُ وَالوَفرُ وافِرُ

73. From Abi Wā’il, the Caliph's death we prevented
Though time humbles all mortals, fate unified

٧٣. أَساداءَ ثَغرٍ كانَ أَعيا دَوائُهُ
وَفي قَلبِ مَلكِ الرومِ داءٌ مُخامِرُ

74. The Qarmaṭī came, his head high, defiant
A piercing spear embedded in his chest, bloodied

٧٤. بَنى ثَغرَها الباقي عَلى الدَهرِ ذِكرُهُ
نَتائِجُ فيها السابِقاتُ الضَوامِرُ

75. We bought and sold their lives with our swords
For we are people who with swords trade

٧٥. وَسَوفَ عَلى رَغمِ العَدُوِّ يُعيدُها
مُعَوَّدُ رَدِّ الثَغرِ وَالثَغرُ دائِرُ

76. We protected their women - we have the right
They returned untouched, veils unified

٧٦. وَلَمّا أَلَمَّت بِالدِيارَينِ أَزمَةٌ
جَلاها وَنابَ المَوتِ بِالمَوتِ كاشِرُ

77. They called him, wailing, while led in fetters
Like palms upon Roman balconies splayed

٧٧. كَفَت غَدَواتِ الغَيثِ دِرّاتُ كَفِّهِ
فَأَمرَعَ بادٍ وَاِجتَنى العَيشَ حاضِرُ

78. We left you these slaves, O worthy Munʿim!
Doves in a cage who for freedom chide

٧٨. أَناخوا بِوَهّابِ النَفائيسِ ماجِدٍ
يُقاسِمُهُم أَموالَهُ وَيُشاطِرُ

79. So treat us with kindness, fearing your might
For you are fierce, and you are tyrant side

٧٩. وَعَمّي الَّذي أَردى الوَزيرَ وَفاتِكاً
وَما الفارِسُ الفَتّاكُ إِلّا المُجاهِرُ

80. He roasted Samāwa’s core with flames enraged
The sparks of spears over the horizon glide

٨٠. أَذاقَهُما كَأسَ الحِمامِ مُشَيَّعٌ
مُثَوِرُ غاراتِ الزَمانِ مُساوِرُ

81. He hounded Kaʿb where no water flows
To teach Kaʿb how the vines do override

٨١. يُطيعُهُمُ ما أَصبَحَ العَدلُ فيهِمُ
وَلا طاعَةٌ لِلمَرءِ وَالمَرءُ جائِرُ

82. He sought Kaʿb where no track marks the way
To teach Kaʿb how some fires deride

٨٢. لَنا في خِلافِ الناسِ عُثمانَ أُسوَةٌ
وَقَد جَرَّتِ البَلوى عَلَيهِ الجَرائِرُ

83. We made Jawna plunder without remorse
And Jarrāḥ fled, bested when allies vied

٨٣. وَسارَ إِلى دارِ الخِلافَةِ عَنوَةً
فَحَرَّقَها وَالجَيشُ بِالدارِ دائِرُ

84. Abū ‘l-Fayḍ, how the people around him suffered!
Though his ancestors were blest, dignified

٨٤. أَذَلَّ تَميماً بَعدَ عِزٍّ وَطالَما
أُذِلَّ بِنا الباغي وَعَزَّ المُجاوِرُ

85. You and us both ruled them, ruled their zeal
For people are but necks and servile

٨٥. وَصَدَّقَ في بَكرٍ مَواعيدَ ضَيفِهِ
وَثَوَّرَ بِاِبنِ الغَمرِ وَالنَقعُ ثائِرُ

86. You and us both ruled them, ruled their zeal
For people are but necks for each reviled

٨٦. وَأَقبَلَ بِالشاري يُقادُ أَمامَهُ
وَلِلقَيدِ في كِلتا يَدَيهِ ضَفائِرُ

87. Which of my kinsmen, think you, that you met?
With a glaive unsheathed, and slaughter sanctified?

٨٧. وَشَنَّ عَلى ذي الخالِ خَيلاً تَناهَبَت
سَماوَةُ كَلبٍ بَينَها وَعُراعِرُ

88. My brother strove for honor, heedless of fear
No weakness in him, no failings espied

٨٨. أَضَقنَ عَلَيهِ البيدَ وَهيَ فَضافِضٌ
وَأَضلَلنَهُ عَن سُبلِهِ وَهوَ خابِرُ

89. My brother sought glory, heedless of death
No poison daunted, no demise terrified

٨٩. أَماطَ عَنِ الأَعرابِ ذُلُّ إِتاوَةٍ
تَساوى البَوادي عِندَها وَالحَواضِرُ

90. Resolve his trait, twisting fate in his grip
Say he severs hopes, and he hope fortified

٩٠. وَأَجلَت لَهُ عَن فَتحِ مِصرَ سَحائِبٌ
مِنَ الطَعنِ سُقياها المَنايا الحَواضِرُ

91. At Urdabil, with one battle, enemies were thwarted
Two felled, struggling, by his glaive unified

٩١. تَخالَطَ فيها الجَحفَلانِ كِلاهُما
فَغِبنَ القَنا عَنّا وَنُبنَ البَواتِرُ

92. Through Azerbaijan's plains his steed strode
To a land where leopards prowl, lonely-eyed

٩٢. وَقادَ إِلى أَرضِ السَبَكرِيِّ جَحفَلاً
يُسافِرُ فيهِ الطَرفُ حينَ يُسافِرُ

93. From Rawqatayn he emerged, waging fierce war
Strong-armed, subduing the horizon far and wide

٩٣. تَناسى بِهِ القَتّالُ في القَدِّ قَتلَهُ
وَدارَت بِرَبِّ الجَيشِ فيهِ الدَوائِرُ

94. When his steed settled in Jazirah, terror filled
The lands of Shām, homes there petrified

٩٤. وَعَمّي الَّذي سُلَّت بِنَجدٍ سُيوفُهُ
فَرَوَّعَ بِالغَورَينِ مَن هُوَ غائرُ

95. We made our white swords the kings of its domains
And their women slaves, though queens glorified

٩٥. تَناصَرَتِ الأَحياءُ مِن كُلِّ وِجهَةٍ
وَلَيسَ لَهُ إِلّا مِنَ اللَهِ ناصِرُ

96. He captured Baliyyā, placed his host in its plains
Ḥarrān too - its ruler terrified

٩٦. فَلَم يُبقِ غَمراً طَعنُهُ الغَمرُ فيهِمُ
وَلَم يُبقِ وِتراً ضَربُهُ المُتَواتِرُ

97. A day of justice his, many triumphs stand out
Honor restored, nourishing our dignified pride

٩٧. وَساقَ إِلى اِبنِ الدَيدَواذِ كَتيبَةً
لَها لَجَبٌ مِن دونِها وَزَماجِرُ

98. Next morn, hordes attacked from every side
Skilled he struck steed and horde terrorized

٩٨. جَلاها وَقَد ضاقَ الخِناقُ بِضَربَةٍ
لَها مِن يَدَيهِ في المُلوكِ نَظائِرُ

99. Every hardened spear-tip aflame in his hands
Every page's armor, by blows calcified

٩٩. بِحَيثُ الحُسامُ الهِندُوانِيُّ خاطِبٌ
بَليغٌ وَهاماتُ المُلوكِ مَنابِرُ

100. His lions in flight seemed like mountains crumbling down
Boulders crashing, peaks collapsing, rock-face slide

١٠٠. وَعَمّي الَّذي سَمَّتهُ قَيسٌ مُزَرنَفاً
وَقَد شَجَرَت فيهِ الرِماحُ الشَواجِرُ

101. We are the heights, when Wa’il's glories recounted
We are the throngs, heroes fortified

١٠١. وَرَدَّ اِبنَ مَزروعٍ يَنوءُ بِصَدرِهِ
وَفي صَدرِهِ مالاتَنالُ المَسابِرُ

102. Among us Jaḥḥāf's bold lion Yahyá
Among us, his brother, the warring dignified

١٠٢. وَعَمّي الَّذي أَفنى الشُراةَ بِوَقعَةٍ
شَهيدانِ فيها الرائِبانِ وَجازِرُ

103. Their skill and courage at valor none dispute
Vision and hearing of honor unified

١٠٣. أَصَبنَ وَراءَ السِنِّ صالِحَ وَاِبنَهُ
وَمِنهُنَّ نَوءٌ بِالبَوازيجِ ماطِرُ

104. Son of the veteran horse-vanquisher has fury
When men confront Ibn Muʿammar's fortified pride

١٠٤. كَفاهُ أَخي وَالخَيلُ فَوضى كَأَنَّها
وَقَد غَصَّتِ الحَربُ النِعامُ النَوافِرُ

105. A lad like an Indian sword, flawless and gleaming
Though his soft cheeks scarce sprout hair undyed

١٠٥. غَداةَ وَأَحزابُ الشُراةِ بِمَنزِلٍ
يُعاشِرُ فيهِ المَرءُ مَن لايُعاشِرُ

106. A boy endowed with all traits of nobility
Though his damask cheeks still bloom, fresh-hued

١٠٦. وَعَمّي الَّذي ذَلَّت حَبيبٌ لِسَيفِهِ
وَكانَت وَمَرعاها مِنَ العِزِّ ناضِرُ

107. Abū ʿAdnān, chief of his clan, is among us
Among us too, bulwark Jibril unified

١٠٧. وَعَمّي الحَرونُ عِندَ كُلِّ كَتيبَةٍ
تَخِفُّ جِبالٌ وَهوَ لِلمَوتِ صابِرُ

108. This one whose struggle the crown's rights reclaimed
That one who breached the invincible fortified

١٠٨. أولَئِكَ أَعمامي وَوالِدِيَ الَّذي
حَمى جَنَباتِ المُلكِ وَالمُلكُ شاغِرُ

109. The Aghar Agharr, like his sire ennobled
My friend, though the friend by his peers derided

١٠٩. بِحَيثُ نِساءُ الغادِرينَ طَوالِقٌ
وَحَيثُ إِماءُ الناكِثينَ حَرائِرُ

110. If I seek combat, he battles without relent
If I rise up, he aids me dignified

١١٠. لَهُ بِسُلَيمٍ وَقعَةٌ جاهِلِيَّةٌ
تُقِرُّ بِها فَيدٌ وَتَشهَدُ حاجِرُ

111. When fear encircled Rabīʿah’s abode
Naught left but pits that shadows hide

١١١. وَأَذكَت مَذاكيهِ بِسَرحٍ وَأَرضِها
مِنَ الضَربِ ناراً جَمرُها مُتَطايِرُ

112. From the Umayyah, a battle saved them
Ancestors of Shaybān fell unified

١١٢. شَفَت مِن عُقَيلٍ أَنفُساً شَفَّها السُرى
فَهَوَّمَ عَجلانٌ وَنَوَّمَ ساهِرُ

113. Among us ʿAlī, the stallion's valiant knight
Among us Ibn Naṣr, best of all who vied

١١٣. وَأَوَّلُ مَن شَدَّ المَجيدُ بِعَينِهِ
وَأَوَّلُ مَن قَدَّ الكَمِيُّ المُظاهِرُ

114. The Qaramita Ḥusayn, resembling his grandfather
Defending himself and host unified

١١٤. غَزا الرومَ لَم يَقصِد جَوانِبَ غِرَّةٍ
وَلا سَبَقَتهُ بِالمُرادِ النَذائِرُ

115. Among my cousins and uncles' sons are peaks
Where glory's flames rise high and bright

١١٥. فَلَم تَرَ إِلّا فالِقاً هامَ فَيلَقٍ
وَبَحراً لَهُ تَحتَ العَجاجَةِ ماخِرُ

116. They are lords, they are heroes for which I boast
To vex my foe, and make him burn with envy's blight

١١٦. وَمُستَردَفاتٍ مِن نِساءٍ وَصِبيَةٍ
تَثَنّى عَلى أَكتافِهِنَّ الضَفائِرُ

117. But for my shunning reproach from the unjust
No words would vex me, no thoughts would me override

١١٧. بُنَيّاتُ أَملاكٍ أُتينَ فُجاءَةً
قُهِرنَ وَفي أَعناقِهِنَّ الجَواهِرُ

118. In past or future feats, I seek no reward
My rank is clear, though merits glorified

١١٨. فَإِن تَمضِ أَشياخي فَلَم يَمضِ مَجدَها
وَلا دَثَرَت تِلكَ العُلى وَالمَآثِرُ

119. Deeds that leave poets' minds bemused, when told
Thoughts that would destroy minds that tried

١١٩. نَشيدُ كَما شادوا وَنَبني كَما بَنَوا
لَنا شَرَفٌ ماضٍ وَآخَرُ حاضِرُ

120. He built them, builder of bastions, which now crumble
God's champion, but creed is vilified

١٢٠. فَفينا لِدينِ اللَهِ عِزٌّ وَمَنعَةٌ
وَفينا لِدينِ اللَهِ سَيفٌ وَناصِرُ

121. He confronted the Roman at Azarnaq
Obstinate, hardened, resolve unified

١٢١. هُما وَأَميرُ المُؤمِنينَ مُشَرَّدٌ
أَجاراهُ لَمّا لَم يَجِد مَن يُجاوِرُ

122. He skewered the Roman host at Jiluqaniyyah
Rampart, tower and trench blood-drenched, horrified

١٢٢. وَرَدّاهُ حَتّى مَلَّكاهُ سَريرَهُ
بِعِشرينَ أَلفاً بَينَها المَوتُ سافِرُ

123. He captured Constantine in fetters
Patriarchs crowning him dignified

١٢٣. وَساسا أُمورَ المُسلِمينَ سِياسَةً
لَها اللَهُ وَالإِسلامُ وَالدينُ شاكِرُ

124. The Dhul-Qarnayn fled, though excused
Fleeing the sword, his face terrified

١٢٤. وَلَمّا طَغى عِلجُ العِراقِ اِبنُ رائِقٍ
شَفى مِنهُ لاطاغٍ وَلا مُتَكاثِرُ

125. His son for himself he traded that dire day
When woes strike, treasures are nullified

١٢٥. إِذِ العَرَبُ العَرباءُ تَبني عِمادَهُ
وَمِنّا لَهُ طاوٍ عَلى الثَأرِ ذاكِرُ

126. But for the two left - his son in law and grandson
The rest made the dust, by the sword calcified

١٢٦. أَذاقَ العَلاءَ التَغلِبِيَّ وَرَهطَهُ
عَواقِبَ ماجَرَّت عَلَيهِ الجَرائِرُ

127. He drove out the Ṭayyi’ and Kalb, debased
Leaving Jabal Ghūr deserted, horrified

١٢٧. وَأَوطَأَ حِصنَي وَرتَنيسَ خُيولُهُ
وَقَبلَهُما لَم يَقرَعِ النَجمَ حافِرُ

128. He saved Abī Wā’il from the sword's disgrace
Though all mankind bows down mortified

١٢٨. فَآبَ بِأَسراها تُغَنّي كُبولَها
وَتِلكَ غَوانٍ مالَهُنَّ مَزاهِرُ

129. The Qarmatī marched ahead, undaunted
A piercing spear embedded in his neck, bloodied

١٢٩. وَأَطلَقَها فَوضى عَلى مَرجِ قِلِّزٍ
حَوادِرَ في أَشباحِهِنَّ المَحاذِرُ

130. Among them Yaḥyá and his equal
Vision and hearing of glory unified

١٣٠. وَصَبَّ عَلى الأَتراكِ نِقمَةَ مُنعِمٍ
رَماهُ بِكُفرانِ الصَنيعَةِ غادِرُ

131. At Khālidiyya, he saved a soul near doom
Swords and spears relinquishing spoils unified

١٣١. وَإِنَّ مَعاليهِ لَكُثرٌ غَوالِبٌ
وَإِنَّ أَياديهِ لَغُرٌّ غَرائِرُ

132. Among us Abū ‘l-Yaqẓān, Jaḥḥāf's heir
Among us, his brother, warring dignified

١٣٢. وَلَكِنَّ قَولي لَيسَ يَفضُلُ عَنفَتىً
عَلى كُلِّ قَولٍ مِن مَعاليهِ خاطِرُ

133. Among us Ibn Qannās - veteran horse-knight
A boy whose hands clutch gleaming Indian-forged side

١٣٣. أَلا قُل لِسَيفِ الدَولَةِ القَرمِ إِنَّني
عَلى كُلِّ شَيءٍ غَيرِ وَصفِكَ قادِرُ

134. When called to defend Rabīʿah's honor
These lords rushed forth, deaths unified

١٣٤. فَلا تُلزَمَنّي خِطَّةً لا أُطيقُها
فَمَجدُكَ غَلّابٌ وَفَضلُكَ باهِرُ

135. And ʿAlī - cavalry's accomplished knight
And Ibn Naṣr - best of all who vied

١٣٥. وَلَو لَم يَكُن فَخري وَفَخرُكَ واحِداً
لَما سارَ عَنّي بِالمَدائِحِ سائِرُ

136. The Qaramita Ḥusayn, resembling his grandfather
Defending himself and host unified

١٣٦. وَلَكِنَّني لا أُغفِلُ القَولَ عَن فَتىً
أُساهِمُ في عَليائِهِ وَأُشاطِرُ

137. Among my cousins are peaks and summits
Where glory's flames rise high and bright

١٣٧. وَعَن ذِكرِ أَيّامٍ مَضَت وَمَواقِفٍ
مَكانِيَ مِنها بَيِّنُ الفَضلِ ظاهِرُ

138. They are lords, they are the prized gems I boast of
To spite my foe and envy's blight

١٣٨. مَساعٍ يَضِلُّ القَولُ فيهِنَّ جَهدُهُ
وَتُهلِكُ في أَوصافِهِنَّ الخَواطِرُ

139. But for my avoidance of the unjust's rebukes
No words would vex me, no thoughts override

١٣٩. بَناهُنَّ باني الثَغرِ وَالثَغرُ دارِسٌ
وَعامِرُ دينِ اللَهِ وَالدينُ داثِرُ

140. I spoke of my merit, praised my tribe
No flatterer am I, nor versifier tied

١٤٠. وَنازَلَ مِنهُ الدَيلَمِيَّ بِأَرزَنٍ
لَجوجٌ إِذا ناوى مَطولٌ مُصابِرُ

141. Does the bright sun conceal its brilliant light?
Does the full moon hide its face dignified?

١٤١. وَذَلَّت لَهُ بِالسَيفِ بَعدَ إِبائِها
مُلوكُ بَني الجَحّافِ تِلكَ المَساعِرُ

142. My friend's joy is that I am mostly blamed
Though he dislikes these boasts glorified

١٤٢. وَشَقَّ إِلى نَفسِ الدُمُستُقِ جَيشُهُ
بِأَرضِ سُلامٍ وَالقَنا مُتَشاجِرُ

143. I spoke of my excellence, my tribe's virtues
No reward I seek, past or forthcoming stride

١٤٣. سَقى أَسَناساً مِثلَهُ مِن دِمائِهِم
عَشِيَّةَ غَصَّت بِالقُلوبِ الحَناجِرُ

144. How can the strong rope fray, or might weaken?
Bonds tightened, kinship unified

١٤٤. وَباتَ يُديرُ الرَأيَ مِن كُلِّ وِجهَةٍ
وَذو الحَزمِ ناهيهِ وَذو العَزمِ آمِرُ

145. O Abū Aḥmad! Pause if the branch bears no fruit
No shoots prosper on separation's morning-tide

١٤٥. وَأَورَدَها أَعلى قَلونِيَّةَ اِمرُؤٌ
بَعيدُ مُغارِ الجَيشِ أَلوى مُخاطِرُ

146. Will you take pride in towering former glories?
While present majesty makes futures dignified?

١٤٦. وَساقَ نُمَيراً أَعنَفَ السَوقِ بِالقَنا
فَلَم يُمسِ شامِيٌّ وَلَم يُضحِ حادِرُ

147. Does the absent glory, when replacements shine
Distract you from honors present, fortified?

١٤٧. وَناهَضَ أَهلَ الشامِ مِنهُ مُشَيَّعٌ
يُسايِرُهُ الإِقبالُ فيمَن يُسايِرُ

148. In us, the past has triumphs, and more to come
We build as they built, praise as they prided

١٤٨. لَهُ وَعَلَيهِ وَقعَةٌ بَعدَ وَقعَةٍ
وَلودٌ بِأَطرافِ الأَسِنَّةِ عاقِرُ

149. In us God's faith has might and protection
In us God's faith has sword and fortified

١٤٩. فَلا هُوَ فيما سَرَّهُ مُتَطاوِلٌ
وَلا هُوَ فيما سائَهُ مُتَقاصِرُ

١٥٠. فَلَمّا رَأى الإِخشيدُ ماقَد أَظَلَّهُ
تَلافاهُ يَثني غَربَهُ وَيُكاشِرُ

١٥١. رَأى الصِهرَ وَالرُسلَ الَّذي هُوَ عاقِدٌ
يُنالُ بِهِ ما لاتَنالُ العَساكِرُ

١٥٢. وَأَوقَعَ في جُلباطَ بِالرومِ وَقعَةً
بِها العَمقُ وَاللُكّامُ وَالبُرجُ فاخِرُ

١٥٣. وَأَوطَأَها بَطنَ اللُقانِ وَظَهرَهُ
يَطَأنَ بِهِ القَتلى خِفافٌ خَوادِرُ

١٥٤. أَخَذنَ بِأَنفاسِ الدُمُستُقِ وَاِبنِهِ
وَعَبَّرنَ بِالتيجانِ مَن هُوَ عابِرُ

١٥٥. وَجُبنَ بِلادَ الرومِ سِتّينَ لَيلَةً
تُغاوِرُ مَلكَ الرومِ فيمَن تُغاوِرُ

١٥٦. تَخِرَّ لَنا تِلكَ المَعاقِلُ سُجَّداً
وَتَرمي لَنا بِالأَهلِ تِلكَ المَطامِرُ

١٥٧. وَما زالَ مِنّا جارَ شَرشَنَةَ اِمرُؤٌ
يُراوِحُها في غارَةٍ وَيُباكِرُ

١٥٨. وَلَمّا وَرَدنا الدَربَ وَالرومُ فَوقَهُ
وَقَدَّرَ قُسطَنطينُ أَن لَيسَ صادِرُ

١٥٩. ضَرَبنا بِها عُرضَ الفُراتِ كَأَنَّما
تَسيرُ بِنا تَحتَ السُروجِ جَزائِرُ

١٦٠. إِلى أَن وَرَدنا أَرقَنينَ نَسوقُها
وَقَد نَكَلَت أَعقابُها وَالمَحاضِرُ

١٦١. وَمالَ بِها ذاتَ اليَمينِ لِمَرعَشٍ
مَجاهيدُ يَتلو الصابِرَ المُتَصابِرُ

١٦٢. فَلَمّا رَأَت جَيشَ الدُمُستُقِ راجَعَت
عَزائِمَها وَاِستَنهَضَتها البَصائِرُ

١٦٣. وَما زِلنَ يَحمِلنَ النُفوسَ عَلى الوَجى
إِلى أَن خُضِبنَ بِالدِماءِ الأَشاعِرُ

١٦٤. وَأُبنَ بِقُسطَنطينَ وَهوَ مُكَبَّلٌ
تَحُفُّ بَطاريقٌ بِهِ وَزَراوِرُ

١٦٥. وَوَلّى عَلى الرَسمِ الدُمُستُقُ هارِباً
وَفي وَجهِهِ عُذرٌ مِنَ السَيفِ عاذِرُ

١٦٦. فَدى نَفسَهُ بِاِبنٍ عَلَيهِ كَنَفسِهِ
وَلِلشِدَّةِ الصَمّاءِ تُقنى الذَخائِرُ

١٦٧. وَقَد يُقطَعُ العُضوُ النَفيسُ لِغَيرِهِ
وَتُدفَعُ بِالأَمرِ الكَبيرِ الكَبائِرُ

١٦٨. وَحَسبي بِها يَومَ الأَحَيدِبِ وَقعَةً
عَلى مِثلِها في العِزِّ تُثنى الخَناصِرُ

١٦٩. عَدَلنا بِها في قِسمَةِ المَوتِ بَينَهُم
وَلِلسَيفِ حُكمٌ في الكَتيبَةِ جائِرُ

١٧٠. إِذِ الشَيخُ لا يَلوي وَنَقفورُ مُجحِرٌ
وَفي القَيدِ أَلفٌ كَاللُيوثِ قَساوِرُ

١٧١. وَلَم يَبقَ إِلّا صِهرُهُ وَاِبنُ بِنتِهِ
وَثَوَّرَ بِالباقينَ مَن هُوَ ثائِرُ

١٧٢. وَأَجلى إِلى الجَولانِ كَلباً وَطَيِّئً
وَأَقفَرَ عَجبٌ مِنهُمُ وَأَشاعِرُ

١٧٣. وَباتَت نِزارٌ يُقسِمُ الشامَ بَينَها
كَريمُ المُحَيّا لَوذَعِيُّ مُغاوِرُ

١٧٤. عَلاءَةُ كَلبٍ لِلضَبابِ عَلاءَةٌ
وَحاضِرُ طَيءٍ لِلجَعافِرِ حاضِرُ

١٧٥. وَأَنقَذَ مِن مَسِّ الحَديدِ وَثِقلِهِ
أَبا وائِلٍ وَالدَهرُ أَجدَعُ صاغِرُ

١٧٦. وَآبَ وَرَأسُ القَرمَطِيُّ أَمامَهُ
لَهُ جَسَدٌ مِن أَكعُبِ الرِمحِ ضامِرُ

١٧٧. وَقَد يَكبُرُ الخَطبُ اليَسيرُ وَتَجتَني
أَكابِرُ قَومٍ ماجَناهُ الأَصاغِرُ

١٧٨. كَما أَهلَكَت كَلباً غُواةُ جُناتِها
وَعَمَّ كِلاباً ما جَنَتهُ الجَعافِرُ

١٧٩. شَرَينا وَبِعنا بِالسُيوفِ نُفوسَهُم
وَنَحنُ أُناسٌ بِالسُيوفِ نُتاجِرُ

١٨٠. وَصُنّا نِساءً نَحنَ أَولى بِصَونِها
رَجَعنَ وَلَم تُكشَف لَهُنَّ سَتائِرُ

١٨١. يُنادينَهُ وَالعيسُ تُزجى كَأَنَّها
عَلى شُرُفاتِ الرومِ نَخلٌ مُواقِرُ

١٨٢. أَلا إِنَّ مَن أَبقَيتَ ياخَيرَ مُنعِمٍ
عَبيدُكَ ماناحَ الحَمامُ السَواجِرُ

١٨٣. فَنَرجوكَ إِحساناً وَنَخشاكَ صَولَةً
لِأَنَّكَ جَبّارٌ وَأَنَّكَ جابِرُ

١٨٤. وَجَشَّمَها بَطنَ السَماوَةِ قائِظاً
وَقَد أوقِدَت نارَ السُمومِ الهَواجِرُ

١٨٥. فَيَطرُدُ كَعباً حَيثُ لاماءَ يُرتَجى
لِتَعلَمَ كَعبٌ أَيُّ قَرمٍ تُصابِرُ

١٨٦. وَيَطلُبُ كَعباً حَيثُ لا الإِثرُ يُقتَفى
لِتَعلَمَ كَعبٌ أَيَّ عودٍ تُكاسِرُ

١٨٧. فَجَعنا بِنِصفِ الجَيشِ جَونَةَ كُلَّها
وَأَرهَقَ جَرّاحٌ وَوَلّى مُغاوِرُ

١٨٨. أَبو الفَيضِ مارى الناسَ حَولاً مُجَرَّماً
وَكانَ لَهُ جَدٌّ مِنَ القَومِ مائِرُ

١٨٩. فَإِنّا وَإِيّاكُم ذُراها وَهامُها
إِذِ الناسُ أَعناقٌ لَها وَكَراكِرُ

١٩٠. فَإِنّا وَإِيّاكُم ذُراها وَهامُها
إِذِ الناسُ أَعناقٌ لَها وَكَراكِرُ

١٩١. تَرى أَيَّنا لاقَيتَهُ مِن بَني أَبي
لَهُ حالِبٌ لايَستَفيقُ وَجازِرُ

١٩٢. وَكانَ أَخي إِن رامَ أَمراً بِنَفسِهِ
فَلا الخَوفُ مَوجودٌ وَلا العَجزُ حاضِرُ

١٩٣. وَكانَ أَخي إِن يَسعَ ساعٍ بِمَجدِهِ
فَلا المَوتُ مَحذورٌ وَلا السُمُّ ضائِرُ

١٩٤. فَإِن جَدَّ أَو لَفَّ الأُمورَ بِعَزمِهِ
فَقُل هُوَ مَوتورُ الحَشى وَهوَ واتِرُ

١٩٥. أَزالَ العِدى عَن أَردَبيلَ بِوَقعَةٍ
صَريعانِ فيها عاذِلٌ وَمُساوِرُ

١٩٦. وَجازَ أَراضي أَذرَبَيجانَ بِالقَنا
لِوادٍ إِلَيهِ المَرزُبانَ مُسافِرُ

١٩٧. وَناهَضَ مِنهُ الرَقَّتَينِ مُشَيَّعٌ
بَعيدُ المَدى عَبلُ الذِراعَينِ قاهِرُ

١٩٨. فَلَمّا اِستَقَرَّت بِالجَزيرَةِ خَيلُهُ
تَضَعضَعَ بادٍ بِالشَآمِ وَحاضِرُ

١٩٩. مَمالِكُها لِلبيضِ بيضِ سُيوفِنا
سَبايا وَهُنَّ لِلمُلوكِ مَهابِرُ

٢٠٠. وَحَلَّ بِبالِيّا عُرى الجَيشِ كُلَّهُ
وَحُكَّمَ حَرّانَ وَمولاهُ داغِرُ

٢٠١. لَهُ يَومَ عَدلٍ مَوقِفٌ بَل مَواقِفٌ
رَدَدنا إِلَينا العِزَّ وَالعِزُّ نافِرُ

٢٠٢. غَداةَ يُصَبُّ الجَيشَ مِن كُلِّ جانِبٍ
بَصيرٌ بِضَربِ الخَيلِ وَالجَيشِ ماهِرُ

٢٠٣. بِكُلِّ حُسامٍ بَينَ حَدَّيهِ شُعلَةٌ
بِكَفِّ غُلامٍ حَشوُ دِرعَيهِ خادِرُ

٢٠٤. عَلى كُلِّ طَيّارِ الضُلوعِ كَأَنَّهُ
إِذا اِنقَضَّ مِن عَلياءَ فَتخاءُ كاسِرُ

٢٠٥. إِذا ذُكِرَت يَوماً غَطاريفُ وائِلٍ
فَنَحنُ أَعاليها وَنَحنُ الجَماهِرُ

٢٠٦. وَمِنّا الفَتى يَحيى وَمِنّا اِبنُ عَمِّهِ
هُما ماهُما لِلعِزِّ سَمعٌ وَناظِرُ

٢٠٧. لَهُ بِالهُمامِ اِبنِ المُعَمَّرِ فَتكَةٌ
وَفي السَيفُ فيها وَالرِماحُ غَوادِرُ

٢٠٨. وَمِنّا أَبو اليَقظانِ مُنتاشَ خالِدٍ
وَمِنّا أَخوهُ الأُفعُوانُ المُساوِرُ

٢٠٩. شَفى النَفسَ يَومَ الخالِدِيَّةِ بَعدَما
حَلَلنَ بِإِحدى جانِبَيهِ البَواتِرُ

٢١٠. وَمِنّا اِبنُ قَنّاصِ الفَوارِسِ أَحمَدٌ
غُلامٌ كَمِثلِ السَيفِ أَبلَجُ زاهِرُ

٢١١. فَتىً حازَ أَسبابَ المَكارِمِ كُلَّها
وَما شَعِرَت مِنهُ الخُدودُ النَواضِرُ

٢١٢. وَمِنّا أَبو عَدنانَ سَيِّدُ قَومِهِ
وَمِنّا قَريعا العِزِّ جَبرٌ وَجابِرُ

٢١٣. فَهَذا الَّذي التاجَ المُعَصَّبَ قاتِلٌ
وَهَذا الَّذي البَيتَ المُمَنَّعَ آسِرُ

٢١٤. وَمِنّا الأَغَرَّ اِبنُ الأَغَرَّ مُهَلهَلٌ
خَليلِيَ إِن ذُمَّ الخَليلُ المُعاشِرُ

٢١٥. فَإِن أَدعُ في اللَأواءِ فَهوَ مُحارِبٌ
وَإِن أَسعَ لِلعَلياءِ فَهوَ مُظاهِرُ

٢١٦. وَلَمّا أَظَلَّ الخَوفُ دارَ رَبيعَةٍ
وَلَم يَبقَ إِلّا ماحَوَتهُ الحَفائِرُ

٢١٧. شَفى دائَها يَومَ الشُراةِ بِوَقعَةٍ
جُدودُ بَني شَيبانَ فيها العَواثِرُ

٢١٨. وَمِنّا عَلَيَّ فارِسُ الخَيلِ صِنوُهُ
عَلَيَّ اِبنُ نَصرٍ خَيرُ مَن زارَ زائِرُ

٢١٩. وَمِنّا الحُسَينُ القَرمُ مُشبِهُ جَدِّهِ
حَمى نَفسَهُ وَالجَيشُ لِلجَيشِ غامِرُ

٢٢٠. لَنا في بَني عَمّي وَأَحياءِ إِخوَتي
عُلىً حَيثُ سارَ النَيِّرانِ سَوائِرُ

٢٢١. إِنَّهُمُ الساداتُ وَالغُرَرُ الَّتي
أَطولُ عَلى خَصمي بِها وَأُكاثِرُ

٢٢٢. وَلَولا اِجتِنابي العَتبَ مِن غَيرِ مُنصِفٍ
لَما عَزَّني قَولٌ وَلا خانَ خاطِرُ

٢٢٣. وَلا أَنا فيما قَد تَقَدَّمَ طالِبٌ
جَزاءَ وَلا فيما تَأَخَّرَ وازِرُ

٢٢٤. يُسَرُّ صَديقي أَنَّ أَكثَرَ واصِفي
عَدُوّي وَإِن ساءَتهُ تِلكَ المَفاخِرُ

٢٢٥. نَطَقتُ بِفَضلي وَاِمتَدَحتُ عَشيرَتي
وَما أَنا مَدّاحٌ وَلا أَنا شاعِرُ

٢٢٦. وَهَل تَجحَدُ الشَمسُ المُنيرَةُ ضَوءُها
وَيُستَرُ نورُ البَدرِ وَالبَدرُ زاهِرُ
