1. Oh my heart, do you not soften,
And oh my knowledge, do you not benefit,

2. Is it not my right that I look
At this world and what it does,

3. Have not my peers gone
To the narrowness of the grave,

4. Do I not know that there is no escape
For me from that final resting place,
