1. I will implore a little from the great
And desire a pebble from the overabundant

2. And be content with the meager, diminutive from one
Who is generous and does not settle for much

3. Indeed, when souls love
They are humbled in danger and in the lowly

4. And whoever hopes for kings in every matter
Does not neglect the lowly among matters

5. And the face of excuses on journeys is clear
So I do not need to explain it

6. I saw the white seed proud
So how can the twister of fate make me proceed

7. Whenever I listen to the whinnying of a colt
It answers with wailing and neighing

8. And I lead it to the waters while they are still blue
Yet it neighs at the water angrily

9. And if it turns yellow to drink it says wait
A yellow belly drinks with whistling

10. It feels the musk of a she-camel it saw
So it starts grazing the camel's hair

11. And it tries to walk out of joy towards it
But emaciation restrains it from going

12. And I deceived the trickster regarding what he has
So he told me only a little with dishonesty

13. And I recite to him sections from Al-Marwi
And sections from the compositions of conscience

14. And I mention to Al-Farazdaq a thousand verses
And exaggerate in narrating about Jarir

15. So the slanderer said to me about me
Poetry is not acceptable with barley

16. So do not inform about the nations' meadows
For you have fallen into the expert

17. You hope for the dawn meal of the fasting people with me
Yet you intend to make the difficult easy

18. I see you sensed the scent of wishes
That's why you smelled the breeze of joy

19. A prince who erased the injustice of nights
And drowned his generosity in eras of time

20. Time grows weary of distress and affliction
And does not grow weary of good and goodness

21. Wishes play in his gifts
Like ships in the seas

22. In the intensity of crises, he has a soul
Like the coolness of shade in the heat of noon

23. So the best view is righteousness and beauty
With which he is brought to a grateful servant

24. I knew and thanked your loftiness that I
Am ascribed to inadequacy and deficiency

25. My wings were cut short by adversities but
With your abundance they will become plentiful

26. And if they were oiled, it would soar high
For it is neither weak nor broken

27. When I expressed those traits
I expressed the spreading of fragrance

28. You remained for us, and your hearing does not lack
