1. Lean toward the abode from Saadi in Dhi al-Sind
And call upon the highlands, with pegs and pillars

2. Perhaps in the abode is one with news to inform us
What was before tomorrow in it to after tomorrow

3. My pledge to it bringing about freshness blossoming
Has what is eternal occurred in it forever?

4. Rain down your tears and don the darkest mourning gown
Billowing, that David wove from aquamarine

5. Deceive not in reproaching the people of love in wrath
For love is tempting for its people to wrath

6. Lend my eyelids glances for them in abundance
For the eye, what ails it, the discharges of rheum

7. If time disdains you, do not resort to it, be
Like the caravan, fleeing in fear to the lion

8. Despair not, and if you suffer from spite
For no son of Adam except prone to spite

9. Life is but toil after which is comfort
Think not all living is in comfort

10. While the person remains predisposed to envy
No failing of person except the state of envy

11. Trouble not with the burden of fate carrying
For the lion’s pardon is the place of knotted rope

12. Among the people is one who carries the world on a shoulder
With the resolve of the strong ropes, not the ropes of pearls

13. Why do seekers wear me out and I seek them
And I have only returned with empty hands

14. The sly foxes have outwitted me at dawn
And outwitted the clever, were it not for yearning, they would not have outwitted

15. I have been fooled this morn by the lone lion
The darkness overcome me at the cow pens

16. As if I and the daughters of fate were playing
I spend the night on fate’s deceptions in chains

17. So I rely in life on no one
And who relies in life on anyone?

18. When will you see me in the horizons detached
Spending night and morn racing with the detached

19. Alas! Does an eye sleep in torrents
Of seas of the abyss with foam?

20. No more remain for me the selections of separation with skin
Or remains for me a skin for me without skin
