1. The bird of Saadi twittered joyously in the branches,
One evening when time kept its promise of return.

2. So it found itself surrounded by beautiful companions,
With rain kissing its rosy cheeks.

3. O the soul's bliss when the place is populated,
Though once it echoed with emptiness!

4. I don my robe of glory therein overflowing
With the clear tears, embroidered.

5. The heights were delighted at the arrival of the well-mannered one
Whose ears tinkled with jewelled earrings.

6. It was none other than the full moon rising and dispersing
The darkness enveloping the horizon, doubled and unified,

7. On a tenderly cold morning whose dawn
Diffused light upon the world, renewed,

8. A day in which I openly embrace mankind
As though embracing smooth-necked gazelles.

9. O you who gladdened hearts with your cheerfulness,
And brought happiness to Ali and the righteous one, Mohammed,

10. Two vying racers who won and seized
With their precedence, lasting glory.

11. From them come rains of grace for the supplicant
And a cloud's rain that pours virtue and dew.

12. If he extended the reins of leadership, tumultuous seas
Would subside, with the full moon and planets prostrate before him.

13. Not everyone who raced his steed to a goal
Attains from fate lasting honour.

14. Even if you do not spur on fate with a leap
In which you leave fate's beholders dim-sighted.

15. The learned cast their nets and did not cease
Hurling their leads for you.

16. So rise and take the sword of resolve,
For one like you is most worthy to be girded with it,

17. Brandish the scabbard of religion, taking it
Upon the back of the overwrought injustice bare.

18. O Lord, bless one who charges with festering poison
And an attacking lion who strikes fear into fate!

19. If settled were the she-camels of resolution,
Then how many standing who choose a seat of honour.

20. Whenever he rushes into ambiguous affairs with his thoughts
And delves deeply into the tools of sciences.

21. I perceived him to be an experienced scholar in matters
And witnessed a sea churning up merits,

22. Had an observant eye looked into his virtue,
It would have never seen any day his hand empty.

23. A brother of comfort and peace, frolicking because of him,
Taking careful aim for welfare, visiting us and alighting.

24. A hand that proliferates kindness as an excellent twin,
And follows every fine deed with another.

25. O son of the rightly-guiding, the learned did not cease to have
An imam guiding people through guidance to guidance.

26. My soul is ransom for you - it is all I possess And which soul would not ransom itself for you?
I was patient with the caprice of time but in the end

27. There is no praise like that of those who see patience as most right.
Take my arm and pull my burden toward you

28. And dress me in delicate embroidered attire.
Were it not for Ali son of ar-Ridha adorned with the loftiest traits,

29. Your brother, I would not have glimpsed good fortune in fate.
The brother of generosity, who gives beauty bountifully

30. While others give sparingly with regret.
Had he not sprinkled me with his wing’s symptoms,

31. I would have remained as one wading into solid ice.
So he did not cease to provide me plenty of wishes

32. While I did not cease to provide him eternal praise.
One is not praiseworthy in poetry or glorious

33. If he sees poetry as deficient or sees glory as enviable.
Rather, I saw virtue praising its Lord,

34. So I fulfilled the duty of praise toward Ahmad.
How many enviers have I choked, and

35. How long have I continued choking the envious!
Were it not for his glory, I would not be envied

36. Yet I have become envied because of him.
He is the sea, ebullient, he is the shining moon,

37. He is pouring rain, he is the roaring lion.
