1. A slender maiden of Turkish descent enchanted me,
And poured out her tears like gentle rain.

١. سباني من بني الاتراك ريم
واسبل عبرتي رشأ رخيم

2. Her eyes were kohl-dark, her hair jet black,
Slender of form, shapely of body.

٢. كحيل الطرف داجي الشعر المي
رشيق القد مجدول هضيم

3. The morning breeze swayed her to and fro,
Like strands of yarn gently stirred by the wind.

٣. ترنحه الصبا فيميس تيهاً
كخوط البان رنَّحه النسيم

4. So the doves in the branches stayed still,
Charmed by her graceful movements.

٤. شدا فحمائم الاغصان ظلَّت
على اعطافه طرباً تحوم

5. Her cheeks were radiant,
And the mole on her cheek was sweet musk.

٥. كان خدوده ذكيٌّ
ونقطة خاله مسكٌ شميم

6. I desire union with her, and she desires to abandon me.
Where are her true feelings amidst what I desire?

٦. اروم وصاله ويروم هجري
واين مرامه مما اروم

7. I speak while my love is plundered by rivals,
And tears from my eyes pour down in streams.

٧. اقول ومهجتي نهب التصابي
ودمع العين هطَّالٌ سجوم

8. Woe to love, if I listen to blame -
I turn a deaf ear and establish a firm resolve.

٨. معاذ الحب ان اصغي للومٍ
اجلُّ مسامعي واسىً مقيم

9. My heart since we parted has been in agony,
Wounded by the feed of sadness.

٩. ولي قلب غداة البين عانٍ
بسفح الجزع اشجته الرسوم

10. My eyes have not ceased shedding copious tears,
As if my weeping is a steady, flowing stream.

١٠. وعينٌ لم تزل تنهلُّ دمعاً
كأن دموعها درٌّ نظيم

11. I spent the night sleepless and anguished,
With the stars keeping me company in my vigil.

١١. أبيت الليل ذا ارق ووجدٍ
تطارحني بغيهبه النجوم
