1. Beloved of her parents, do not go away
Do not go until the heart sees you leaving

2. You stayed with us briefly like the twinkling of an eye
As the Yemeni lightning flashed untruthfully

3. You dwelled in the valley while still young
And did not move until you dwelled in the bier

4. Do not think little of the folly of youth
For the inspiration of light feet rouses the striders

5. Joining the people without hardship
And crossing a land of pasture and smooth ground

6. The morning breeze blew the scent of musk
With it I blew winds into you that stir up sand

7. If you left a grandfather who cannot see you
In a state where he would not find you wailing

8. The full moons veil their eyes from you as mourners
On a day in which you chose the soil as your veil

9. Is gnashing my teeth of benefit after
The fang of destiny has cut off the proceeding camels

10. Intending for the grave, your father's weeping for you or pouring tears is enough
I will cry for you as long as my tears pour

11. From my eyes until the tears dry up
And if the eyes withhold their water in stillness

12. I will evoke it as melting tears from the heart
Indeed, because of you, my days have turned gloomy

13. As if with them I shrouded a bright white tomb
Destiny has been unfair to the family of Ghalib

14. A blessing that brought prosperity to Nizar and Ghalib
A foster child of generous people, they supposed her

15. A foster child of Aram, we are her milk-parents
How often she said to the shining full moon with her face

16. Stars and planets fell for the one she loved
Indeed, he who marries a daughter other than his daughter has strayed

17. When the daughters of time have become ardent paramours
And they said, “she will be consoled,” and afterwards I said

18. “And who will remain to hope for consequences?”
My friend, time is a close companion of man

19. Until the soul extracts its companion
And man has no refuge from the arena of death

20. And who can escape from death by fleeing?
The youth turns away from the path of death bending over

21. And does not bend away from the path of doom bending over
And where is the youth who repelled destruction with his striking

22. And how many struck youths repel adversities
So how many archers whose bowstrings are worn out

23. And stir to not retreat, thus leading calamities
So whoever contends walking on his own two feet

24. And whoever flees searching for mounts
Necks are humbled to him in humiliation

25. And how much sought humiliation thus made him mighty
He separated some tribes and gathered a army

26. And made it flow like a stream and flow its rivulets
And the people are nothing but gazelles, driving them away at dawn

27. The supplicant dreaded him so he hastened terrified
And those days are nothing but footsteps

28. With nights following them like scorpions
Oh, if only I would meet time peacefully

29. When I did not meet time as an adversary
And if death would listen to the blame of the unjust

30. I would blame but it does not listen to reproach
And nothing absent but will return coming

31. Except death, it did not return to the living coming
