1. To the governor of governors, I bring my grievance
I complain to the One, the Unique

2. Those who frequent your halls have schemed
While the halls of your justice stand open

3. A land where bribery happens openly
And the bribe-taker rules the land

4. A plot like no plot Pharaoh schemed
Against Moses with his spellbinding knots

5. You are the sultan of truth made manifest
Through justice, authority, and righteousness

6. With counsel fit for weighing matters
Not through soldiers and number

7. Kingdoms are set right by you
With sword and spear in the hand of a lion

8. The supreme state is supported by you
O mighty arm, unfailing in strength

9. You keep expelling each usurper
With snarling mouth or casting out the deaf

10. The dark-skinned singers you despoiled
The war mares you captured in raids

11. You protected the frontiers with each sharpened blade
And the boldness of every bold warrior

12. With pure white seriousness, in it no blemish
Of the blood of enemies, clashing and echoing

13. I said to myself: Seek him, you will find
The vizier's door open to all who seek

14. I stretched my hands out beseeching you
O Guardian of Islam, take my hand

15. Watch over the subjects, your eye uplifted
Blinking from wakefulness and sleeplessness

16. Your watchful eye forgot no one
Whether near or far, all came under its care

17. A body without a head, if it loses
Its protector, is like a head without a body

18. Likewise, armor cannot protect a body
If the armor lacks gems

19. By God, the month of Muharram, they treated as lawful
The sanctity of the Eternal, the Self-Sufficient

20. And on its tenth day, a band
Slew the martyrs of Karbala together

21. By it, they permitted forbidden bloodshed
Mindlessly, without law or punishment

22. Until the vizier appointed guards for it
And God sees all with His watching

23. So the punishment for a misdeed came quickly
And saw the punishment before tomorrow

24. Oh how woeful! He overreached his hand
He got what he got from his envy

25. For cursed envy called him
And man is molded towards envy
