This is my book, and the approach of death disturbs me,

هذا كتابي وكف الموت تزعجني

1. This is my book, and the approach of death disturbs me,
Takes me away from life, though you are in my heart remembered.

١. هذا كِتابِي وكَفُّ الموْتِ تُزْعِجُنِي
عن الحياةِ وفي قَلْبِي لكم ذِكَرُ

2. If I fulfil not your due, the fault lies in my scanty days,
To God I owe no duty, no length of days.

٢. إِنْ أَقضِكُم حقَّكُم مِن قِلَّةٍ عُمُرِي
إِنِّي إِلى اللَّهِ لا حقٌّ ولا عُمُرُ

3. I yearn for the departed, though ne'er again we'll meet,
Save where no moonlight's radiance can make the darkness retreat.

٣. لَهفِي على نَيِّراتٍ ما صدعْتُ بها
إِلا وأَظْلَمَ مِن أَضْوائِهَا القَمرُ

4. Greet in my name Mansur, than whom none nobler fought
To venge the Muslim's wrongs, and in their cause prevailed.

٤. فاقْر السَّلام على المنْصُورِ أَفْضلِ من
سعى لثأرِ بنِي الإِسْلامِ فانْتَصرُوا

5. With tenderness greet Muzaffar, whose mighty arm
Brought victory, and turned the tide of war's alarm.

٥. واعطِفْ بها عطْفَةً تهتزُّ مِن كَرمٍ
على المُظَفَّرِ فهو الفَلْجُ والظَّفَرُ
