I said may God receive you with mercy

1. I said may God receive you with mercy
And may Allah, Lord of the east, bless you

2. May God destroy a people who deserted you at dawn
And did not have patience for the shining swords

3. They turned away and at dawn abandoned our leader
And master in the tightening, narrow strait

4. So whenever you came to us in our homes
You heard wailing from helpers and shoulders

5. Crying for Mahmoud, long-suffering from the tax
Steadfast before the tumult when faced with the facts
