رَكضاً وإِنَّ مَزارَهُ لبَعيدُ

أمِنَ الأهِلَّةِ هائِمٌ وعَميدُ

Marvellous being, he envies and fumes and disputes

٦. لم تثنِهِ الأشواقُ عَن حَسَدٍ لهُ
إِحدى العجائب وامِقٌ وحَسودُ

7. Hail, Prince of the Faithful! For conquests have made
This feast thine, and triumphs shall come to thine aid

٧. بُشرَى أميرَ المُؤمِنينَ فَإِنَّهُ
عيدٌ حَدَتهُ لِلفُتوحِ سُعودُ

8. The steed prances proudly; thou bearest his back
As though his loud neigh were a songbird’s sweet clack

٨. طَرِبَ الجَوادُ وقَد عَلوتَ بِمَتنِهِ
حَتَّى كأنَّ صَهيلةهُ تَغريدُ

٩. يَهُفو بِعِطفَيهِ المَراحُ فَيَرتَمي
لعِباً ويَنقُصُ تارَةً وَيَزيدُ

١٠. وَلرُبَّمَا سالت عَليهِ سَكينَةً
حَتّى تَخَالَ بِعِطفَتَيهِ خُمودُ

١١. يُزهَى فَيُظهِرُ نَخوَةً لمّا رأى
بِكَ أَنَّهُ في حُسنِهِ محمودُ

١٢. كَيفَ استَقَلَّ بِطَودِ حِلمٍ راجِحٍ
والطَّودُ يَثقُلُ حِملُهُ وَيَؤُودُ

١٣. لو كُنتَ تَرضَى نَعَّلتهُ خُدودَهَا
مُستَشرِفينَ بِه الملوكُ الصيِّدُ

١٤. مَلِكٌ تَوَدُّ النِّيِّراتُ لوَ أنَّها
حليٌ عَلى أعطافِهِ وفَريدُ

١٥. أوَ ما كَفاهَا أنَّ شِسعَ نِعَالِهِ
بَجَبينِ أشرَفِهَا سَنَا مَعقودُ

١٦. يَا مَن يَرومُ بُلوغَ بَعضِ صِفاتِهِ
هَيهَاتَ لَيسَ لِكُنهِهَا تَحديدُ

١٧. كَم ذا تُحَاوِلُ عَدَّ زَهرِ خِصَالِهِ
أقصِر فَمَا لأَقَلِّها تَعديدُ
