1. My beloved shone in the dark night
While the night remained gloomy

2. Many shapely women in fine dresses
Have a full moon that lights them and flutter about you

3. Do not belong to those coquettish girls
Who seek you but do not find you as their prize

4. The young man is deterred from his heart while resolute
And they divert him from the path of righteousness though devout

5. As if the stinginess of their eyes and waists
Is shared among those who love them and seek marriage

6. While drunkards have become rigid with austerity
With no flirtatious glances or amorous gestures

7. And in the morning their cheeks are chafed
From pulling on the bridles, their reins entangled

8. When she sensed that she was one of the hunting birds
Of Nada Bin Ali, she did not heed the perils

9. He was so generous to me that I imagined
I shared with him what his hands contain

10. And he granted me more than I hoped for
So I returned and composed poetry in praise of his generosity

11. Thus I speak nothing but what I intend
And take nothing but what I relinquish

12. If today the fire of battle flares up
And the brave foe throngs his plain

13. The sun has a radiance that appears
Like intersecting swords beneath the clouds

14. The smooth spearheads make the twisted necks
Spurt blood where spearheads meet and cross

15. Their blades are blue from the clamor of battle
For they reach the high places of death

16. When they meet the earth's surface they raise
Hands with faces and plaited hair

17. The vast earth narrowed though spacious
Yet battle never narrowed upon it

18. For you are the lofty heights and grandeur beyond
What you contained of saddled steeds and realms

19. Silent mountains may perish enduring as they are
While your glory remains for eternity, everlasting

20. The feast belongs to you - rather in you the feast has meaning
We came to you for blessings as we offer congratulations

21. You perfected generosity though it lay dormant
Your gifts revived life though it was dying

22. You found though did not seek while others who give
Are a torrent without gifts merely gushing
