1. I shall compel myself to forgive all who have wronged me
And pardon out of nobility and generosity

2. I shall make my honor above my wealth a protection
Even if that left me penniless

3. And I shall follow the footsteps of the exalted ones
Who attained the heights of virtue before me

4. They are my people, the blessed ones of restraint
The clan of Aamer, so ask and you shall know

5. When hardships befell, their aid brought light
To whatever was darkest

6. When seated in council, I found them to be
Stars in the darkest night

7. If they stood on the pulpit with wisdom to speak
None could eloquence match

8. If they took up their pens in epistle
None wrote better than they

9. With their words the truth shone bright
By their judgement, sacred law stood firm

10. Their prayers dispel afflictions when they come
And rain falls from the horizon of the sky

11. Then one said: Oh son of the destitute, how long
Will you give freely till you are bereft?

12. I said: My eyes are on you, for I have seen
The best of men are the most generous

13. I will not accept blame, for my roots are noble
And my family has long sown kindness and nobility
