1. Arise, O beauty's charmer
With poetry like permitted magic

2. Hail Kuwait, and say to her:
O pearl among the sands

3. O oasis traced by the Merciful amid the hills
Gardens of eternity in the heat of the desert, shaded and leafy

4. You know not the luxury of the she-camels' howdahs, or the cheeks of the beautiful maidens
I almost doffed my shoes when I descended

5. Upon the sanctuary of her valley
Between me and you, O Kuwait

6. Is an intimate, naked connection
If I have not visited your land

7. In my life's primes
Then how often have I gone to you on wings

8. Of imagination
I have in your meadows a pause

9. I yearn for more than union
And sweeter tasting than the pleasure

10. Of singing girls, mistresses of coy glances
And more beloved than drinking wine,

11. Nay, orange juice
I do not mention the blonde

12. When she is like pure water
In a country that has been sanctified

13. By Him—no! By the Sanctity of the Majestic
Nay—and by the Prophet Muhammad

14. The best of the latecomers and the ancients
No religion contains what Islam

15. Contains of the glory of perfection
And I entered you in the gloaming

16. And saw my nights whitened
O city! The crescent blushes

17. With bashfulness because of it
Why not, while its pillars of light

18. Are full moons of perfection?
And is its light more perfect

19. Radiating from its inhabitants?
The faces of its Eastern sons

20. Express the generosity of glorious deeds
Inheriting glory from two lines:

21. From an uncle and a maternal uncle
They said: The land of oil; I said

22. The land of heroes and men!
Repelling from their midst dishonor,

23. Truthful in struggle
Their words preceding their deeds

24. And how often the Arab has reaped
Deeds whose telling is sweet

25. O Arab, say to fate:
The tear of the free is expensive

26. From me have the steadfast mountains
Learned steadfastness?

27. Say to time: Provoke me, and
Surely enduring me will fatigue you!

28. That I am more courageous than
Jungle lions if called to battle

29. Alas! In the Arabic lexicon there is no
Word for “capitulation” or “defeat”!

30. It is an ordeal like a cloud
In summer, heralding departure

31. We were and still are the structure
Of glory, makers of grandeur
