1. Today: No tyrannous Caesar, no Shah
Each people has leaders from amongst them

2. Rulers are not lesser masters
O Lord, Master, the people's multitude is its master

3. The people in the council are all equal
And justice takes its course amongst the pillars

4. I saw the worker amongst the idlers
Neither bowing his head nor pouting his mouth

5. The government in its different forms
Is an image it portrays to the contented people

6. The people are like the body; what need has the body
For a head, if not carried by its legs?

7. People have a lesson in the peacock and owl
Each is best with what in it is its tail feathers

8. The sea gladdens my chest when it is calm
When its waters are still at the sea's surface

9. How much is a name adorned with heaped titles
When it has been stripped of its name's adornment?

10. The worst of calamities: arrogance they have mastered
And a title they cling to, if you were to ask them, they say: “We inherited it!”

11. One with virtue goes astray because of it
Why do people wander astray with ancestors that went astray?

12. Who divided people into lineages: that's for him
Glory, and that is without glory or esteem

13. Who divided blood: this is noble, pure
And that is raised with the scents of musk?

14. Children of Adam, what are these differences? Is it
That amongst you one has a son, while another adopts?

15. People were not created from pearl and pottery
People, no matter how high, are similar to people

16. Do not belittle yourself or demean your brother, for
Your Lord created you from clay and created him from it

17. And do not say: “This is female” and if she is weak
Do you not consider the kingdom of bees ruled by its females?

18. The best government: its pillar being consultation
And its foundation built on the constitution

19. A just rule that does not aim for personal gain
Rather, pure goodness is its goal

20. Its foundations set by a people of merit
With glory that challenges whoever contends it

21. If the individual has interests in it, the spirit
Of the collective stands against the individual restraining him

22. Place the reins of the people's affairs in their hands
However it steers it, be it right or left

23. A soul is content when success grants it victory
And does not blame when success evades it

24. Another may attain what I do, displeasing me
And evil may befall me from myself, pleasing me

25. They said: “Representation is evil.” I said: “Much harm
We accept to ward off a greater harm we fear.”

26. One who seeks knowledge purely, his quest is dear
The nature of things, it shuns

27. O Lord, the kingdom of the tyrant's daughter is but
The palm of an oppressor, the stars are counted but not his victims

28. The blood of the victims is paint on his sides
And their skulls are bricks in his walls

29. No rule is safe for the tyrant in a homeland
Unless its wings have been severed

30. A rule, when absolute, no compliant voice is heard
And the aggrieved have no complaints heard

31. The people remain, and remains the glory of their state
And the state of one passes away the day it passes!
