1. The seaside spared me a gulf of the Sea of Rum,
where it stopped me on the banks of the pond.

2. and doves coo around the waters like birds.
Beauties approached with prominent busts,

3. then lifted up every chaste tail.
What purity in their revelation!

4. All chastity gathered in the countryside.
They uncovered their tails from their stalks.

5. Did you see the shapely dolls in disarray?
They advanced in slow, swaying strides

6. floating gently in the current.
One raised her dusky tail in the gloom

7. above the pink edges of her skirt,
so that when she folded this finery,

8. a glow appeared under the wings of darkness.
Whenever the eye sees the vista of the creek,

9. you’d say: a valley with a forest of ivory,
each branch bending gracefully,

10. like a virgin bowing in prayer,
who saw her face’s shadow in the water,

11. and the water saw in it the shade of eyelids.
The pots submerged into the plentiful,

12. but refused immersion flirtatiously, swaying.
So when the little ones won a victory,

13. each pot laughed with joyful clamor.
Then they turned away, carrying the pots

14. which swayed beneath them.
Not flirtatiously do those chaste girls

15. pet each gentle beast that brays.
When walking right, they raised

16. a quivering, fluttering tail
and warded off with their left hand

17. the sunbeams' raids on eyes.
They walked proudly when arriving,

18. and when they set out, swayed gently,
have you seen darkness in confusion,

19. or swaying ducks as they waddle?
We marveled at the bearers of pots

20. swung high above their heads like towers.
How can that which has the mighty’s resolve

21. appear with a body like liquid mercury?
A market smoothed out in the open,

22. untouched by silken socks,
and heads created for burdens,

23. not heads accustomed to cutting their hair.
They neither weakened in the gloom of rooms,

24. nor dyed the leather with colors.
But the sun's redness - the Almighty's dye -

25. ran onto their faces like sable.
Ask me about the people of those songs -

26. indeed this valley was my capital.
Its birds taught me their melodies

27. and let me drink the first cup of its air.
I was upon its theater for a time,

28. playing the role of a boy.
For you, O countryside, is my sigh and yearning!
