1. The living now envy the dead their demise
Since the palm tree of divine aid became one of them

2. A noble whose light transcends the dawn glow
The light that the Blissful named it with His name

3. And I lament the sun whose death it witnessed
From its throne a corpse that enlivened it

4. If the sun and all the moons were to disappear
And the eye still beholds it, it would suffice with its reflection

5. No eye has seen a sun, nor Ghaniya’s eye
That did not weep the loss of the two suns, her eyes

6. May Allah not quench the thirst of one who did not wet
With his tears the dwellings flooded by His blessings

7. Woe to the heedless, woe to those who told us:
Supplications have become a substitute for her grants

8. Oh Egypt, where is she who donned determination
And with perfection, the God of the Throne adorned her

9. Dust has become a substitute for her fine silks
And the grave after her has become its lyric

10. Let the sensible do the good that she did
With which she pleased Allah

11. Hopefully through piety he will attain her status
And live under Allah’s protection, his Master

12. By Allah, if she saw our state she would weep
For us and say: Stop, weep for the one who wandered

13. One who did not acquire good deeds perfected
Allah does not neglect a creature who supplicates Him

14. Do you grieve over one whose deeds nearly
Healed the living their demise?

15. She left behind a lion of Allah that succeeded her
Lions that disappeared for the sake of Allah, Who raised her

16. Lower from us the Imam of the pious so cups of certainty
Can quench all people’s thirst from its draft

17. Your father Adam and the Guide—an honor for her
And the world will gain from her remnants

18. Her resting place is still watered with a rain
Pouring from the Most Kind’s mercy, His blessings

19. May Allah grant you beautiful patience, and you have not
Ceased being a star, shining for us, O noble one
