1. Her departure brought light to its west, and the east
Shone white from the sphere of darkness shining

2. In her separation is a crack, and in her cheeks
A glow, and in it stars that sparkle

3. As if a nightingale left its mark on her cheek
A thief who tortures or a fragrance that burns

4. She took from the sand grouse its alertness so whenever
I say, "Be gentle," she says, "I am gentle."

5. True are her anklets that told us
Lovers have no mercy for those who do not love

6. A long sigh from every longing heart
That a narrow pass brings closer to its Master

7. Woe to an Arab woman who does not know
Generosity while the Arab is one who gives

8. The wine of her love flows as tears and sears my breast
So I am her drowned lover and burnt

9. And I am the excuse of lovers for crying
For beauty is innocence and tears are mercury

10. By God, the coquetry of her charm
And the brightness of her cheeks flashing

11. Is only to toy with minds, her love
And set each heart aflame with youth

12. O you with beauty that exonerates
Her forehead for us, best of archers and shooter

13. Tell your neck not to show off its collar
The Prince's slave is crowned and collared.

14. And with the love of Abdul Qadir ibn Shahin Mah
yiddin the faces whitened and shone

15. A king at whose nod the angels stare
While without him the kings stare vacantly

16. I took from the people the pledges of loving him
So if they took the pledges lightly, they would be faithless

17. The highest heaven and whatever soars
Is not like our Prince and cannot match

18. The likes of him bring wealth to the poor
And deliver from the hellish fire

19. Praising the Prince openly is a duty
So through his praise everyone succeeds

20. This is the son of the Reviver of the Faith - no faith
To anyone but him, no shyness or respect remains

21. This is the heir of the prophets, so everything
That pleases God is devoted to him absolutely

22. This is the worshipping, free, wise, ascetic
Pious, kindhearted, careful Imam

23. The accomplished mystic, devout saint
Glorious, generous, eloquent, elucidating

24. Whoever does not stand for God like his standing
Amid adversities and hostilities, may he perish!

25. Whoever does not fast like his fast the son of spiritual path
A fast that dries out the waist and makes it stick

26. His drink before the gazelles is a sip
And his food: when bats take wing

27. Whoever does not cease wandering like him
With slackened reins, his dust cannot be caught

28. The sheen of his skin dimming the bright sheen
From the Prophet's footprint - it heals and shines

29. In his palm Indian steel is a handful
With the blood of victims, beasts marked

30. He calls to God's religion with true calling
Never wavering in obedience to the Merciful

31. Or in mosques standing for his prayers
And voluntary prayers for which he gives alms

32. O best of those who testified Ahmad is the Emissary
And God is the Lord and the Book is the Truth

33. Were it not for you, celebrations would have mourned
My joy would have waned and lost all charm

34. The talent in me would not have sparked
Nor would the garden of rhetoric have blossomed

35. Do not blame the lights of wisdom
If absent, for they have a brilliant excuse

36. Our rule has broken hearts, leaving
No words that please, no odes that one may love,

37. Poetry is oil and hearts are glass
So if the glass breaks, the oil will pour

38. I give you the glory of faith though injustice
Inclines to drown the perceptive

39. I know not how this wretch wants to cut off our livelihood
While you, who sustains us, live

40. Or how he came to rule in squalor
When around him, like a water-skin, is squalor

41. Would that you who named him Glory of the Faith, named
Him Ignoble Faithless Fool

42. A donkey's mind ruling donkeys
If he speaks, he brays

43. As if misfortune crowing in his throat
Forever threatening ruin and braying

44. Appointing the vicious thief for his money
And dismissing the decent while strangling

45. So may our Prince make it last, for by
His prayer we are saved from every harm

46. O Gentlest of the two burdens (man and jinn) to the servant complaining
Of time that knows no gentleness

47. Be my helper, for I have none but you helping
Erasing sorrows from hearts and crushing them

48. The torrent reached the flowers and the flowers bloomed
My concerns and afflictions envelop me

49. From a libertine who betrayed the Prince's promise
And the traitors' son neither promises nor proves true

50. By the might of your station and the bald poets
Swimming atop the hilltops and sinking

51. I will tear out the hearts of the bastards' sons
With a sword that makes the wilderness quake

52. An eloquent talking sword, skilled
In what it depicts and creates

53. And if I see poetry brings no benefit
And money spent yields nothing and is wasted

54. I visited Ibn Shammaya and told my dirham
"Turn out well," for after you good turns await

55. And I left behind my horse which I envied but did not
Leave Prince Glory without a mare prancing about

56. I seek forgiveness from the Merciful for what I said
For my hopes in anything but You are not pinned

57. If you shelter me in a house that shelters an ounce
Not shelter me from the highest of your grace a handful
