1. Your qualities transcend those of an eminent poet
O shining star of precious knowledge

2. You have no need to choose the best responses
For all your responses are a paradise for the beholder

3. And jewels have come to us, articulated
From your bountiful, copious, abundant sea

4. For if the stars were to give generously, the stars
Would not attain the sublime with something so rare

5. Except that it is ephemeral
And its fragrance endures to the Day of Reckoning

6. It has no shortcoming save its delicacy
Which shames the wind and revives the despondent soul

7. I marvel, it is manifest sorcery
How it has come from a free, pure lineage

8. Matchless to a horseman who ascended
The horse of insight valiantly over the valiant

9. The intrepid Ahmad, horseman of the sea
Who rendered the seas lofty with abundant knowledge

10. O you of timeless glory and an impregnable
Fortress of majestic knowledge and all contemporaries' speech

11. No poets have spoken like you when
You recited in praise of the steadfast King

12. Two things we cannot bear patience from
My love for you and praise of Abd al-Qadir

13. From your Master upon you a thousand greetings
To please you from the All Powerful God

14. And upon the Sultan - by name and deed like you -
The most lofty and clement, from a pouring cloud

15. By him the six directions gleamed in his light
Like your face gleaming at the visitor's arrival
