1. Praise be to God, the time is good and reconciled,
And the auspicious bird comes happy and cheerful.

2. The nightingale of great victory trills
On the branch of joy and the whistling wind of purity.

3. God has generously bestowed blessings upon us,
Reviving happiness and consuming sorrow.

4. The clerk of Damascus returns joyfully
Victorious, honored and glowing.

5. What a victory that restored his dignity,
Repelled harm from him and humbled it.

6. His cheer returned after it had faded,
And his glow came back after it had tarnished.

7. What joy for the treasury’s funds without
The great profit it harbored within.

8. The clerk of Damascus, estranged from it,
Nearly melted in grief or burst with rage.

9. Its lofty council nearly dissolved,
And its spirit became a ghost at dawn after separation.

10. The groups of writers fell into misery,
One discarding his book, another tossing it away.

11. But they immediately returned from frowning
When a vessel of pain was opened up for them.

12. Ahmad returned, good fortune accompanying him,
While around his room, his eloquent praisers cheered.

13. Today, O standard of standards, every wise one
Is alive, wearing the garment of security.

14. Every vulgar, evil-natured one is withdrawn,
While every good, praiseworthy one is cheerful.

15. Fate wanted to distance you from us,
But hoping for your pardon, it faltered.

16. Your absence was an error, every bit of it wrong,
Wiped away by the hand of investigation.
