1. With your light, the land glowed and grief departed
And injustice and oppression parted from both

2. You divided fortunes between them with justice
As a mother divides fairly among her children

3. So the sea gained a sea of your gentle waves
And the land gained towers of your resolve

4. And for the people, a garden of your virtues
Where if the afflicted visits, health returns

5. In it gentleness, grace and loyalty blossom
And justice, kindness and clemency bloom

6. You journeyed away like the innocent from it
The phantom of joy did not come near nor did sickness depart

7. Will the homelands shine with your return
And tears of sorrow will shine in the eyes of the rival

8. And after the day of separation, will there be a day
You restore to us like the white pearls your resolute steeds

9. They say this is an inauspicious year for all
I said, for Damascus which grief has overwhelmed

10. But for the abode of joy and purity
It is a blessed year adorned with the happiest of fates

11. I have attained my hopes from it so do not sever
The splendid hope of return which is total profit

12. And take from my ode what elevated all poetry
Three verses with which the composition concludes

13. With six lines we date sixty six
A date detailed by number

14. You are none but the just, the noble one whom
The eloquent Arabs and non-Arabs submit

15. A generous, pious, dear honored minister
With the noble reins of precious clemency

16. A righteous one who prides in sincerity and truth his comfort
Cheerful, his reasonable opinion caution and determination

17. He prides the land with the crown of his good deed
And alive with a goodness death's conceit has not visited
