Has enthralled the Arabs and the Romans alike.
١. للَه حُسن وحسنها الغضُّ الذي
هامت به عربُ الرها والرومُ
2. Her sweet saliva, which nothing has surpassed in taste,
Is the only drink I crave, nothing else will do.
٢. ورضابها العذب الذي ما طاب لي
لولاه مشروبٌ ولا مشموم
3. A Bedouin beauty who refuses necklaces as adornment,
Hovering over breasts like a butterfly over flowers.
٣. بدوية تأبى الهراش عقودها
مثل الفراش على النهود تحوم
4. Her breasts are like silver stars,
With ruby teats as their shining gems.
٤. ونهودها ككواكب من فضةٍ
فيهن من أكر العقيق نجوم
5. I said, “Shoo away this butterfly from the flames!”
And drew her close, embracing the embraced.
٥. قلت اطردي هذا الفراش عن اللظى
وضممتها فتأوَّد المضموم
6. She began to defend herself from my passion
Saying, “Do not pelt the breasts with stones!”
٦. وغدت تدافعني بهنَّ عنِ اللَمى
وتقول مه إن النهود رجوم
7. You speak true, nothing has warded off anguish like
Her upright breasts have done.
٧. صدقت فما دفع الهموم وذادها
عني بغير نهودها القيوم
