1. I praised Allah and the Lord who guided
My companion to my house, drunk and merry

2. As if harder on me than I on money
When my visitor is a singing nightingale

3. He stayed the night and I kept giving him drink until
His heart's wounds gushed forth

4. Then I embraced him and said: the fire of anger
Grows more with reproach, beware

5. Oh my reproach and my smart drink
That flows on his soft cheek continuously

6. And break his sickly glance as he
Broke my heart mercilessly with his tyranny

7. But he stopped me and said: here is my consent
And gave it to me willingly and happily
