1. Should eyes be pleased at afflicted hearts' expense,
Then those who know not custom will take offense.

2. Turn thou distraction from the truthful heart,
Else sharp disdain outdoes the sword's offense.

3. Slumber has fled me and composedness too;
No state is there I now can well commence.

4. For mercy's sake, say her to gentleness-
Loyalty and faith yet have valid pretense.

5. Perchance my dear, who set my heart at ease,
Will from solace abstain, and turn away.
