1. O you who resents the bird's chirping voice
I never thought anyone could be so stingy

2. If all the people of the earth listened
To this sound, it would not decrease or increase

3. If I did not fear a fiery spark from you
Would burn me, I would steal the hearing from afar

4. If Ziryab were alive and heard this
He would die of envy or melt from anguish

5. So do not begrudge my ear that you deafen
A voice that roams the spirit's realm in the body

6. As for drink, I do not favor it
And I only come to you empty-handed
