١. لستُ بقاضٍ أملي
ولا بِعادٍ أجَلي
2. Nor one who is vanquished by fate
That which is destined for me
٢. ولا بمغْلوبٍ على الرزْ
قِ الذي قُدِّرَ لي
3. Nor one who is given wealth without toil
With hardship and labor
٣. ولا بمُعطىً رزقَ غَيْ
رِي بالشَّقا والعَمَلِ
4. So I wonder, what is it
That preoccupies me so
٤. فليتَ شِعْري ما الّذي
أَدْخَلَني في شُغُلِ
