1. O my messengers, go and tell her
That today I have gotten over my passion for her

2. I was ignorant of her worth, then she turned against me
And became arrogant with her ruling and judgment

3. Separation from her weakened my body
Then her gaze made my eyes sick

4. Her aloofness increased when we met
So I wished she would prolong her hostility

5. Every bitter thing from the beautiful one is sweet
Except her rejection and prolonged estrangement

6. O brotherly love, how much can a soul endure
That meets her passion with acceptance

7. I did not obey the ruling of passion
But her injustice, deficiency, and breach of loyalty drove me

8. I was her slave, seeing humility as honor
In my submission and obedience to her supremacy

9. Yet she spurned me though I'm the best freeman
Protected by glory, guarding her protection

10. How many nights I spent in misery without
The pleasure of her gentle company replacing it

11. Yearning plays with me, its fire in my chest
Exceeded the limits of its capacity

12. No imagination visits me from her, a lover
Fighting it over the horizon with my eyelids

13. No heart softened by her is comfortable
Complaining of her estrangement and loss of intimacy

14. Whenever we meet to reproach, it is as if
A guide from her increases my tribulation

15. She would not blame me if she brought me near
And healed my love-sick heart by sipping her rainwater

16. To spend time in passionate love for the narcissist
Burned the heart that loved her with her firebrand

17. Whenever I cast my condition before her
Her disinterest in my distress grew

18. My infatuation for the beauty's love
Would shame the full moon if her splendor appeared

19. She pledged fidelity to me for a year
After being immersed in the sea of her passion

20. So I awaited the star of my fortune but
Destiny prevented her from union

21. A beauty's vow, o my friend, is a flash
Of lightning, like her contentment and anger

22. She will never see a lover like me in her life
And I have no beloved but her

23. And though I said I have gotten over her
I and passion are lovers of her passion

24. I have gotten over her aloofness but I cannot
Get over her beauty and radiance

25. The temptation of all people, the essence of
Charm and beauty manifested her

26. I was confused in loving her as I was confused in describing
Ibn Nasif, the one I pride myself on

27. The eminent Imam with abundant virtue, Ibrahim
Yearning from the one who attained a high position and prominence

28. The unique one of the age, supporter of knowledge, Qamis
The rhymes and the one who composes his banners

29. A poet, prose writer, eloquent, articulate
In various sciences none can equal him

30. He attained with the intellect the merit of a venerable Sheikh
And wore the garment of refinement and acquired it

31. So his praise of knowledge became an obligation
And through it today the poet wandered

32. God bore witness that he is the best creature
Who saw affection as a duty so he complied with it

33. I did not intend to praise what traits he possesses
Beyond the ability of time to describe his sublimity

34. Rather, my reproach was my intention
And in reproaching him my mind went astray and wandered

35. My friend, what do you think of a lover
Whose passion towards you is possessed and covetous

36. How can you spurn me when I have no patience
And the covenants of loyalty - what stripped them bare?

37. May God protect the good days of intimacy
In your gatherings their purity is spent

38. Beirut is truly the garden of knowledge
But you are the full moon that rose from it

39. The best part of my life that has passed
Was what I spent there - do you think I'll see it again?

40. So if one day destiny gathers us
Reproach towards you will prolong on my lips

41. And reproach spread the fragrance of its redolence
Contentment is its dowry, so if you find, o human,

42. Otherwise, the prolonging of tribulation!
